Reighton Sands Holiday Park – Haven

Reighton Sands Holiday Park is a seasonal caravan park on the Yorkshire Coast near the town of Filey. It is the smallest of three Haven Holidays outposts in the area, with not quite as many offerings as the other sites, but with access to five miles of lovely beach. The park consists of several neighborhoods of caravans clustered around a large entertainment and recreation complex and bordered by Filey Beach and the park's own nine-hole golf course. The main entrance road winds its way past clapboard caravans and grassy lawns to the guest reception area, a low-rise building that also houses the laundry facilities and connects to the entertainment complex. The interiors are a bit basic, but clean and well-maintained. The grounds have lovely views of the seaside and a steep path descends to the extensive sandy beach surrounded by beautiful cliffs. The wealth of recreational activities geared at kids make this primarily a family destination for budget-minded travelers.

The Reighton Sands Holiday Park is located by the seaside, a 13-minute drive to the small town of Filey. Though there are no attractions within walking distance (other than those in the park itself), the park is close to the A165, a major motorway that leads to the coastal towns of Scarborough (a 25-minute drive) and Bridlington (a 20-minute drive). The beautiful white coastal cliffs of Flamborough are a 20-minute drive away, and a bit farther afield is North York Moors National Park (45-minute drive), a gorgeous expanse of heather moorland and home to lots of scenic walking trails.

The park has six different types of caravans available for rent in a range of sizes and comfort levels. Decor is pleasant and homey, with light colors, blonde wood furnishings, and printed upholstered seating in the living areas with accent pillows. All caravans have flat-screen TVs, gas fireplaces in the living room, and kitchenettes equipped with ovens, stoves, microwaves, fridges, and kettles. Gas, electricity, and water are free. The two most basic options, Standard and Standard Plus, are pet-friendly. Higher-tier options have central heating as well as bed linens included in the rate. Though small in size, as to be expected of caravans, the units make efficient use of space. Campsites are also available, though guests should note that sites are prone to flooding during heavy rains. There are shower blocks and toilet facilities, as well as dishwashing areas, for campers.

There are many recreational and entertainment facilities on the grounds to keep guests (especially the little ones) entertained, including an indoor pool and outdoor lazy river, a nine-hole golf course situated on 140 acres with sea views, a games arcade with air hockey and prizes, and an outdoor playground. The park also has a kids' club with a variety of activities for different age groups, arts and crafts classes, and outdoor nature themed classes. Unfortunately, most of the activities require additional fees, which can get pricey. Travelers should also note that the facilities get overcrowded during high season. There are two restaurants on-site, a fish and chip shop and a pub restaurant, as well as a small convenience store.
