Hacienda Santa Cruz

This charming hotel is situated on a countryside estate that was originally an ancient Franciscan monastery in the 17th-century. It was later transformed at the end of the 19th-century into a henequen plantation (a type of agave plant famous in the Yucatan). Around 2007, it came into its current incarnation as a boutique hotel. The property is surrounded by beautiful, lush gardens teeming with greenery, tropical plants, orange and palm trees, and verdant lawns that frame lovely, colonial architecture. Tranquil grounds have the vibe of a serene, secluded escape, which draws couples seeking a peaceful getaway as well as families. The property is comprised of several buildings, the main part of which is situated in a crimson structure with arched windows edged in white. Interiors are homey and colorful; there are several common areas that feature traditional details like tiled floors and wooden ceiling beams, accompanied by lots of colorful artwork adorning the walls and bright couches and armchairs.

The hotel is located outside of Merida, in a peaceful, countryside location by a small village. There’s not much within walking distance, which makes this hotel best suited for guests seeking an escape. Merida’s center can be reached in about 20 minutes by car, where guests can visit sites such as the Merida Cathedral, MACAY Museum, or the Casa Montejo Museum. Several Mayan ruins can be reached in about an hour or two by car, including Uxmal, Mayapan, and Chichen Itza. The Merida International Airport is about a 15-minute drive.

Rooms vary in size and style and include Doubles, Master, and Junior Suites, as well as Casitas. The bright spaces feature colorful walls and textiles in lively hues such as yellows, reds, and blues, as well as vibrant art on the walls. There are also two lovely outdoor pools surrounded by sundecks with comfortable seating, loungers, and hammocks.
