Bottom Line

The 59-room Pallas Hotel is a mid-range property nestled in a rural area of Laganas, a short drive from the beach and the party section of town. Set amidst olive groves and palm trees, the property has a small pool area with a hot tub and lively bar. All-inclusive meal plans are available in the casually chic on-site restaurant. Guest rooms are modern and clean with simple decor in earth tones, and balconies with pool or countryside views; some have kitchenettes. But guests complain about fees for in-room Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and safes -- the slightly costlier Mediterranean Beach Resort Hotel could be a good alternative.

Pallas Hotel

Scene

Countryside views and a quaint pool area and hot tub

The Pallas Hotel is set in a rural area surrounded by lovely olive groves. During the off season, the hotel offers a quieter setting, removed from the boisterous crowds that the main section of Laganas is known for. The affordable rates and proximity to the bars, though, does attract some traveling couples looking to party at the peak of season -- so there can sometimes be noisy crowds poolside. The property consists of two three-story buildings, both cream-colored stone with Mediterranean-style roofs. An elegant terrace wraps around the pool area, where white umbrellas and blue lounge chairs are positioned close together on the deck and small lawn. The lobby is clean and classically decorated, with floral arrangements, dark furniture, and cozy brown leather sofas.

Location

On a quiet countryside road in Laganas

The Pallas Hotel is located in a rural area of Laganas on a quiet road. It's about a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive to the sandy shores. The beach, as guests complain, is small and offers limited lounging space. Close to the beach, starting within about a 10-minute walk of the hotel, is the main strip with with clubs, bars, and restaurants. The Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos is about a 15-minute drive north. CruiseMar, a seven-minute drive away, offers glass-bottom boat rides. Driving to Zakynthos International Airport takes about 15 minutes.

Rooms

Neutral decor, flat-screen TVs, and balconies

Guest rooms are on the plain side, but feel fresh and modern, with white and neutral decor. Some have earthy color palettes of green and brown; others are more beachy, with light or white wood accents. An elevator to second- and third-story rooms is only available in the main building. Standard Rooms come with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and balconies or terraces with views of the pool or countryside -- the best views are available in rooms at the back of the hotel. Standard bathrooms have white and beige tile, shower/tub combos, and hairdryers. Deluxe Rooms have a large, modern bathroom with two sinks and a glass-walled stall shower; the one we saw also had a pretty wrought-iron bed frame and gauzy bed drapery. Cribs are available, and kids under 12 stay free. Some rooms may be charged for mini-fridge use.

Trendy poolside cocktails, casual buffet dining, and outdoor games

The pool bar extends from a covered outdoor area with casual patio furniture to a stylish room, decorated with small wood tables, modern white chairs, bright orange hanging lamps, and unfinished exposed beams. The main restaurant is large and casual, with mirrored columns, high ceilings, and mostly white decor. Guests dine on buffet-style cuisine at small tables, or have drinks at the small interior bar with rounded white bar stools. A terrace with informal patio furniture overlooks the countryside and the parking lot. The hotel also has weekly barbecues. A pool table and ping-pong table are on the terrace, which faces the pool and is surrounded by bougainvillea and greenery.
