Scene
Leafy plants in lobby, bright breakfast area, and Acropolis views
Entering the Arethusa Hotel from the busy street,
guests will find a cramped lobby with dated, mirrored
walls and cream-colored couches that are beginning to show some wear and tear. Plenty of
leafy greenhouse plants sit in the window, and a Greek mural decorates the
wall behind the wooden front desk. Breakfast is served in a bright room filled
with wooden tables and chairs. The bar area is connected to the breakfast room,
and guests can order drinks well into the evening. On the roof of the hotel, guests can
take in spectacular views of the Acropolis from an indoor and an outdoor seating
area.
Location
In the neighborhood of Plaka, about a 15-minute walk to the Parthenon and Acropolis
The hotel is tucked between a store and a cafe on a
busy street near Syntagma Square. It’s a block from the pedestrian street
of Ermou and a bit west of the National Gardens. It’s
about a 15-minute walk to both the Parthenon and Acropolis; several other
historical sights are nearby, along with plenty of restaurants, cafes,
and shops. The Arethusa is within a five-minute walk to a bus stop where
guests can catch the bus to Athens International Airport. There’s also a nearby
bus line serving Piraeus Port, the largest seaport in Greece.
Rooms
Sparse decor, mini-fridges, and tall windows
Rooms at the
Arethusa Hotel have wooden floors, light walls, and sparse decor. Long, light
curtains cover floor-to-ceiling windows, and beds have thin green or brown bedspreads. Some of the rooms have been renovated
and feature wall-mounted flat-screen TVs and updated tile
bathrooms, while some un-renovated rooms have tube TVs and showers that aren’t
much more than a curtain and a metal lip for catching water. All rooms have mini-fridges
and free Wi-Fi.
