AthenStyle Hostel

Scene

A funky, artist-inspired hostel with a youthful vibe

This is a young and funky hostel, which is readily apparent upon entry. Common areas were designed by the Italian artist Giorgio Guidi, and they display a lively, bright, distinctive personality. The lobby has an outdoor swing and garden furniture, and is covered in interesting artwork. Downstairs in the game room, however, the furniture looks as if it were dropped from a '70s-era college dorm room, right down to the yellow-blanketed futon, turquoise Persian rug, mismatched furniture, and arty posters. A rooftop terrace/bar area is a mix of natural wood and metal furniture, and offers panoramic views of the city and Acropolis. The hostel caters to a wide range of guests, including backpackers and families, but it has a young vibe and will likely appeal most to those seeking the same.

Rooms

Private rooms with private baths, and dormitory-style rooms available

AthenStyle Hostel offers private rooms and dormitories, all with air-conditioning. Private rooms include Singles, Double and Twin Rooms, Suites and Flats, and Studios for up to four people. All private rooms have en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and lockers with safe-deposit boxes. Dormitory rooms, located in the building next door, are for four to six, or eight to 10 guests, and have bunk beds, lockers, and a bathroom and shower for each room. All the AthenStyle Hostel rooms evoke a bit of the  '70s, with concrete floors, floral fabrics, metal bed frames, and mismatched vintage items that show some wear. The thin mattresses have bright-colored comforters, and some of the rooms have reading lights over the beds. Studio Rooms have lovely terraces with seating and exceptional views. Many of the larger rooms have kitchenettes with stovetops, mini-fridges, and sinks. Bathrooms are small (showers only, no tubs), and include modern round mirrors, toilets and tiny sinks, and hairdryers in some. Past guests have complained about room cleanliness.
