Bottom Line

The 22-story President Hotel is considered a skyscraper in Athens. The 516-room, three-pearl property caters mainly to groups of tourists -- the lobby has been compared to Grand Central Station in the mornings. Despite basic, dated rooms and a nondescript location away from tourist attractions, the hotel does have great features including a seasonal and unheated rooftop pool and chic Penthouse 21 Bar and Restaurant with great city views. Rooms on higher floors offer sweeping views of Athens, but there is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.

Oyster Hotel Review

President Hotel

Scene

Big hotel with views of Athens

Though the President Hotel is popular with tourists, it has a business vibe with its brown and cream color palette. Marbled floor-to-ceiling columns add interest to the lobby, as does the square geometric ceiling, and navy blue furnishings. Upstairs, Penthouse 21 Skyscraper Bar is a much more carefree space with elephant statues and black and white framed photos of jazz musicians hanging on the walls. Some of the best (non-historic) views of Athens can be found from the pool and restaurant.

Location

Nondescript neighborhood in Ampelokipoi

Though the neighborhood of Ampelokipoi is safe, it's not entirely geared towards tourists. Past guests have complained of excessive noise from the busy streets. There are metro stations near the President Hotel, but tourist destinations like the neighborhood of Plaka and the Parthenon are about an hour's walk away. The United States Embassy is about two miles from the hotel.

Features

Rooftop pool, chic restaurant and bar, and lobby bar

Features at the President Hotel go above and beyond what's usually found at this price point. The seasonal rooftop pool is the crown jewel of the hotel. Penthouse 21 Bar and Restaurant serves a free hot buffet style breakfast, and a la carte lunch and dinner, with some of the highest views in Athens. The lobby bar is another option for cocktails and small snacks (room service is also available). Wi-Fi is free in public spaces but service is spotty.
