Bottom Line

The Quest Hotel Kuta is a modern mid-range hotel located on the outskirts of southern Kuta, less than a 10-minute drive from both the airport and the nearest beach. The 95 rooms sport a sharp and simple look, and are generous on space, but noise can be an issue. All feature balconies, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and safes. Some higher category rooms also feature kitchenettes, living rooms, and stylish bathrooms. Facilities include a large pool with a swim-up bar, a reasonably priced restaurant, Drestha Spa, and meeting rooms. Free extras include 24-hour airport transfers, parking, and Wi-Fi. As an alternative, Kuta Angel Hotel is similarly priced and closer to the action on Jalan Legian and Kuta Beach, though its facilities aren't as nice.

Scene

Modern hotel with plenty of spots to unwind for the wide array of guests drawn here

For mid-range hotels in the Kuta area, there are plenty of dismal and dated options, but the Quest is one of the better kept and more modern of the hotels that we've seen as of late. Interiors are modern and there are a variety of common areas throughout the property. However, many guests are just passing through for a night, and the hotel tends to stay quiet much of the time. It's also a good value option when you weigh facilities against those found closer to town. The pool features a swim-up bar, whirlpool, and shallow section, plus there are some frangipani trees, vines, and bamboo that add a bit of atmosphere. The restaurant adjoins the pool and has indoor seating as well as an alfresco poolside dining section. Expect to see a wide range of travelers here, though many simply use this as a home base for reaching the airport after a holiday in other parts of Bali.

Location

Convenient transit hotel located less than a 10-minute drive from the airport and the beach

The hotel is located in the southernmost part of Kuta, and is in an ideal for those with early morning flights or in transit. It's less than a 10-minute drive from the airport. However, for those on vacation, the hotel is a little out of the way and not within walking distance of the beach or downtown Kuta. In the hotel's direct vicinity there a few convenience stores as well as Park 23 mall, which is a two-minute walk away and contains a cinema, retail stores, and restaurants. German Beach is the closest strip of sand, and the vibe is much more laid back than neighboring Kuta Beach. Kuta Beach, which is a 15-minute drive from the hotel, does have easier and more forgiving waves that are better for novice surfers. Popular attractions nearby include Discovery Shopping Mall and Waterbom Bali, which are less than a 10-minute drive away.  Jalan Legian, where Bali's wildest and most popular nightclubs are located is around a 20-minute drive.

Rooms

Modern rooms outfitted with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, mini-fridges, and electric kettles

Rooms are simple, modern, and spacious, and have large glass doors that lead out onto balconies and let in plenty of natural light. Interiors have a clean, uncluttered look, with mostly plain white walls except for touches of gray on the accent walls. Decor is minimal, with just a couple small black-and-white photos alongside light wood-veneer furniture that includes desks, chairs, and wardrobes. Deluxe Rooms also contain comfy upholstered armchairs and Suites feature couches. Standard features include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, free Wi-Fi, safes, and mineral water.

Rooms here tend to be more spacious than most similarly priced hotels in downtown Kuta. The largest rooms, Executive Suites, span 1,216 square feet (113 square meters) and feature living rooms as well as kitchenettes that are equipped with microwaves, blenders, and toasters (though they lack stovetops). Suites also feature more elegant bathrooms containing deep soaking tubs and large vanities, both of which are tiled in marble. Showers in these units are equipped with rainfall showerheads. Bathrooms in the Superior and Deluxe Rooms are smaller, though not cramped. During our visit, the rooms looked fresh and clean, though did show some wear and tear throughout, especially in some bathrooms, which had peeling grout and stained tiles. Noise from the busy street outside and between rooms can be an issue.

Features

A large pool with a swim-up bar, an affordable restaurant, nice spa, and meeting rooms

The hotel's affordable prices and proximity to the airport make it a good option as a transit hotel, though for vacationers who don't mind being a bit outside of town, the quality and variety of facilities on offer also don't disappoint. The lap pool is tucked away in a quiet area at the back of the hotel, and features a whirlpool, shallow kids pool section, and swim-up bar. The pool area has very little greenery and it doesn't get maximum sun, as it is shaded by the hotel and exterior walls. A reasonably priced restaurant serves international fare with an emphasis on Indonesian and Asian cuisines. Drestha Spa offers a variety of beauty and massage treatment and features private massage treatment rooms containing deeps soaking tubs. Meeting rooms are available and can hold up to 120 people. The hotel provides free shuttle services to downtown Kuta and 24-hour airport transfers. There is also plenty of parking space at the hotel, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
