Take a look at the best beach hotels in Kuta.
This upper-middle-range, 381-room hotel is located right on Kuta Beach next to the Discovery Shopping Mall. Rooms and Villas vary, but all are clean and comfortable and some have private pools. Garden View Rooms can get noisy as there's a nightclub nearby. Features include a lagoon-style pool with a swim-up bar, a full-service spa/salon, fitness facilities, and three on-site restaurants. There's also a huge kids' club here, and the playground and dedicated kids' pool are fabulous. Adults can play too, thanks to tennis and squash courts, and a full-size chessboard.
This 88-room mid-range boutique hotel is across the street from Kuta Beach, and close to several good restaurants and area attractions. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning. Beautiful Balinese tropical gardens line the grounds, and there is an outdoor pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. The beautifully renovated on-site spa offers a wide range of treatments, including aromatherapy, color therapy, and Ayurveda. Its Italian restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is a good place to watch the sun go down while sipping terrific (though a tad pricey) cocktails.
The family-friendly, 313-room Bali Dynasty Resort is upper-middle-range property with tropical features like koi ponds and a wonderful garden that’s within a 15-minute walk of shops, attractions, and restaurants. Stylish, modern rooms have modern tile bathrooms, minibars, coffeemakers, and free bottled water, while some have balconies or patios and can fit families up to five people. There are three outdoor pools and several on-site restaurants and bars, and a great breakfast is included with room rates. Balinese treatments are offered at the Ashoka Spa, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout. The resort's rates are a bit high and rooms have some upkeep issues when compared to others in the area, like the Bali Garden Beach Resort, which is cheaper and offers similar features.
The Kuta Beach Heritage Hotel Bali is a four-pearl property with 159 rooms in the heart of Kuta, across the street from the beach. Rooms are chic and spacious, with a tasteful nautical theme plus air-conditioning and minibars -- some feature large balconies with sea views. The infinity pool has excellent views of the ocean and other highlights include well-liked restaurants, a large and varied breakfast buffet, plus a spa and fitness center. This is one of the nicest spots that we've seen in Kuta, though the vibe is lively and may not please those looking for peace and quiet. Given its upmarket finish, rates can be a relative bargain. As a comparison, the Bali Dynasty Resort has similar features and pleasant decor, though it's more expensive and less stylish.
The 173-room Hotel Kumala Pantai is a three-pearl beach-adjacent property in the heart of downtown Legian close to the beaches, restaurants, bars, and shops. It's a traditional Balinese resort with tropical gardens and interesting statues and carvings throughout the grounds and in the lobby. The dated rooms could use a little freshening up, but they all come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and nice furnished balconies. The two beautiful outdoor pools are highlights here, as is the beach and popular beach-view restaurant. There's also a spa offering massage and salon services and a convenience store. Travelers looking for a more modern property in the same area could check out the Astagina Resort, where some rooms have private pools, though rates may be higher.
The 177-room Bali Garden Beach Resort is a sprawling, three-pearl resort overlooking Kuta Beach and less than a 15-minute walk from the beach town's many restaurants, shops, and attractions. Rooms are large and unfussy, outfitted with all the requisite amenities and decorated in slightly dated Balinese style; many have balconies or terraces, and either ocean or garden views. Family Rooms and Villas are especially spacious, and have private courtyards and kitchenettes. The 13 restaurants and bars offer a range of international cuisines and drinks -- some paired with panoramic ocean views -- but the resort's standout features are the three outdoor pools, one of which has a small kids' area and a swim-up bar, though all three close early in the evening. There’s also a spa, which offers a full range of treatments and has a deep soaking tub. Breakfast is included in all rates and there is free parking, but spaces are limited.
The upscale 228-room Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas is beachfront hotel with exceptional grounds within a five-minute drive of Kuta's attractions and restaurants. Contemporary rooms all have balconies (some with ocean views), air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, while exceptional Villas have extras including private pool access and 24/7 butler service. The airport is essentially next door, but plane noise isn't a bother here, though there are minor upkeep issues in guest rooms. The three outdoor pools plus several on-site restaurants and bars are a plus for the families and large group tours that pass through, and there is a full-service spa as well. For a resort this size a fitness center would be a welcome addition, and guests should compare rates at the Bali Garden Beach Resort, where that feature is included.
The 322-room upper-middle-range Grand Inna Kuta is a beachfront resort in the center of bustling Kuta. Modern rooms have minibars and free Wi-Fi, and some rooms have balconies with superb ocean views, though rooms in the hotel's older Bali Wing are less attractive and outdated. The hotel features two beautiful outdoor pools with poolside bars as well as on-site restaurants. Massages are offered at the hotel's spa and there are plenty of leisure activities including surf lessons and bicycle rentals. A free breakfast buffet is included with rates. Guests looking to stay in a smaller beachfront property should consider the Kuta Seaview Boutique Resort & Spa, though rates may be slightly higher.
The beachfront, 402-room Ramada Bintang Bali Resort is an upscale property on expansive tropical grounds that’s within a five-minute walk of restaurants, attractions, and shops. Slightly dated rooms all have balconies, free Wi-Fi, and large flat-screen TVs, plus marble bathrooms, though we did notice wear and tear on some furniture. The large, zero entry outdoor pool has a swim-up bar, and the resort also features a fitness center, a kids' club, and several dining and drinking establishments -- the free breakfast receives particularly excellent reviews. Guests looking for a more intimate hotel stay in this area of Bali may want to try the Kuta Seaview Boutique Resort & Spa -- rates will be cheaper, though the property lacks a fitness center.
The 150-room Grand Istana Rama Hotel Bali is an upper-middle-range property located by the beach and right next to Kuta’s Beachwalk shopping center. An older resort, with traditional Balinese-style architecture and interiors, Grand Istana offers simple, pleasant rooms as well as bungalow-style Garden Suites with lovely, lush courtyards -- though bathrooms could use an update and guests complain of issues like clogged pipes. There’s an on-site restaurant serving Balinese and international dishes, as well as a popular bar with live entertainment. The outdoor pool is fairly large and features a swim-up bar, and though there’s no spa, massage and reflexology treatments are available. Other perks include free cultural activities like cooking and dancing classes, as well as language lessons during the week. Overall, this is a solid choice for an affordable rate, though facilities are a bit tired and in need of a revamp.
The 130-room Mercure Kuta Bali is a mid-range property in the heart of Kuta, across the street from the beach. Decorated in a Balinese style, the rooms are simple but comfortable and each has a balcony or terrace, though furnishings could use an update. The hotel's stand-out feature is its rooftop infinity pool that has scenic views of the ocean. Additionally, the Alang-Alang restaurant serves all three meals, though food receives mixed reviews, and there are two on-site bars. Free Wi-Fi and parking, along with its central location near several hot spots, add to its value. The hotel is best suited for couples and groups who will spend most of their time outside the hotel and want to be close to the action.
The 70-room Maharani Beach Hotel is a three-pearl resort, with low room rates, across the street from the beach, in the heart of Kuta. Rooms are modern and cheerful, with coffeemakers, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges; some rooms have balconies with awesome ocean views. The outdoor pool and swim-up bar are picturesque and well-maintained. The on-site restaurant, Sandbar, serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine and a good free breakfast. The hotel also has an on-site spa that offers massages, facials, and scrubs. There is Wi-Fi, but it has an hourly fee, and the parking spaces are limited. Thanks to the hotel's location just off a major thoroughfare, some rooms get loud traffic noise.
