Bottom Line

The two-pearl Days Inn Bend is an affordable option for families and is conveniently located within a short drive to downtown Bend and Mount Bachelor. A typical chain motel for the most part, the property does feel dated in several areas, and the 75 spacious rooms and suites could use remodeling. However, microwaves and mini-fridges in rooms, plus features like an outdoor pool with a hot tub, a small gym, and a free breakfast offering hot food alongside continental items indicate extra effort as far as amenities go. Limited parking and spotty Wi-Fi can pose occasional issues. The Sleep Inn has a more contemporary feel but it’s further from the downtown area.

Scene

Mostly clean, functional chain motel, with a dated look and some wear and tear

With a bi-level layout, external hallways, and rooms facing the parking lot, this Days Inn property has the look of a classic motel. The reception area is clean and more spacious than most, and some effort has been put into setting up outdoor lounging areas and landscaping. However, much of the property could use remodeling, as evidenced by the rusting stair railings, chipping paint, dated carpeting and floral upholstery in the lobby, and old green flooring on the patio. There’s also no elevator on-site, which may be inconvenient for second-floor guests. Functional but unexceptional, the motel does its job as an option for travelers (mostly families) on a budget looking for a quick stay in Bend.

Location

On a busy road, five-minute drive to downtown and 10 minutes to Mount Bachelor

Located just off a highway, the motel shares a busy (and slightly noisy) road with several other motels and chain eateries. The popular Old Mill District downtown is a three-minute drive or a 17-minute walk away, so tourists may find the hotel to be a suitable base from which to roam the area. Most other areas require a car to reach; the Mount Bachelor Ski Resort is a 10-minute drive away, the High Desert Museum is a 13-minute drive away, and the Newberry National Volcanic Monument is about 20 minutes away by car. Bend-Redmond Airport is 22 minutes away by car. Portland International Airport is a three-hour drive away.

Rooms

Dated decor but well-sized spaces; include mini-fridges, microwaves, and tea/coffeemakers

Rooms are clean, and Standard Queen and King varieties are spacious enough, with room for large armchairs or sofas, adequate floor space, and big, comfortable beds. However, decor is rather bland. Black work desks and television units are on the generic side, and bare lemon-yellow walls, red floral bedspreads, dark carpeting, and old drapes all look a little tired. Standard Rooms all open into the parking lot, so views aren’t particularly special and road sounds are unavoidable. Suites are larger and can have pool views, but don’t come with any particularly notable extras.Standard room amenities are decent, including air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free (but slow) Wi-Fi, but no safes. Microwaves, mini-fridges, tea-and coffee-making facilities, and ironing equipment are provided. Bathrooms get mixed reviews; while some seem updated with new tiling and sinks, others are as dated as the rest of the rooms. Most are clean and spacious, but there are some complaints of strange smells and occasional spots of mold near the bathtubs. All bathrooms have large mirrors, shower/tub combos with fixed showerheads, toiletries, and hairdryers. King Suites can have two bathrooms.

Features

Solid free breakfast, outdoor pool with hot tub, small gym, and dog park

Hotel amenities are a cut above those at most budget chain motels. A simple breakfast room supplies a free daily buffet, with hot items like eggs, sausages and gravy and corned beef hash alongside standard continental fare like cereal and yogurt.A decently-sized outdoor pool and a hot tub are perks, and though the area doesn’t have much surrounding seating, it’s a popular spot for families to relax. There’s also a small gym with limited cardio equipment. As a pet-friendly property, there’s a pleasant green lawn on-site that functions as a dog park, with a gazebo for guests. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property but the signal can be spotty. The coin-operated laundry facility is clean. Although outdoor parking is available on-site, spots get occupied fast and alternative parking options on the street aren’t ideal.
