The Ameron is a three-pearl hotel with budget prices that's located on the scenic Spree River, a short walk from U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations. As of early 2017, the 224 guest rooms and suites were still undergoing renovations, and many still had dated decor. The Waterside and Maritime Deluxe Rooms feature scenic river views, and perks such as minibars and electric kettles -- some also have balconies. Features include two in-house restaurants, a fitness center on the ninth floor, and a spa area with a sauna, a steam bath, and a solarium. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, but breakfast costs extra. For something hipper, travelers could consider 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin for its urban jungle design.
Scene
Riverside hotel with scenic views popular with leisure and business travelers
Located on the banks of the River Spree, this three-pearl hotel occupies two buildings made up of a five-story red-brick building and a modern eight-floor glass-fronted addition. The public spaces were refurbished in 2016 and the spacious lobby features hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a large seating area consisting of cozy sofas upholstered in brown velour and several book-filled bookshelves. Bright, abstract paintings adorn the walls in the lobby and corridors, adding splashes of color. Many parts of the hotel have scenic river views, and there's an outdoor terrace area directly on the riverside. It's popular with both business and leisure travelers for its scenic riverside location and close proximity to public transit.
Location
On the banks of the River Spree, in a quiet residential area
Ameron Hotel ABION Spreebogen Berlin is located on the riverfront next to the Spree River, in a quiet residential area, but within walking distance of a few shops and restaurants. Transportation connections are good, with a subway station (U-Bahn) and a suburban train station (S-Bahn) within easy walking distance. The main train station is just one stop way on the subway, and there's a direct bus from the hotel to the airport. Many river tour boats stop at the hotel. - One-minute walk to the River Spree
Rooms
Renovated and dated guest rooms with scenic river views; some with balconies
A refurbishment of the guest rooms and suites was launched at Ameron Hotel ABION Spreebogen Berlin in 2016, and as of early 2017, the Waterside and Maritime Deluxe Rooms were complete. These renovated rooms are decorated in a subdued style, with brown carpeting and beige fabrics dominating the color palette, and simple furniture finished in warm mahogany tones. Some rooms have balconies and river views. Amenities include minibars and electric kettles in addition to the standard amenities found in all rooms. Namely: air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, and free Wi-Fi. At the time of writing, Standard Rooms had not yet been refurbished and remained dated, with fussy upholstery on the bed skirts, armchairs, and curtains, and mini-fridges as opposed to minibars. Past guests have complained of dirty carpets, damaged walls, and cracked ceilings. Bathrooms are cramped; they have walk-in showers, hairdryers, and magnifying mirrors. Bathrooms in the Suites, however, are more spacious, with roomy walk-in showers and separate bathtubs.

There's also an attached bar and smokers' lounge. Located on the ninth floor, the fitness room gets lots of natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows, and offers scenic views of Berlin. Equipment includes a treadmill, two stationary bicycles, a cross trainer, and a weight machine. The spa area features a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, and a solarium, all of which are free for guests to use. The hotel also offers bicycle rentals (for a fee).
