Bottom Line

The 246-room NH Brussels City Centre is a modern chain hotel with a prime location close to downtown and near a variety of shopping. This hotel offers a range of amenities including a trendy bar/restaurant, breakfast room, and a modern gym. There are also 24-hour front desk service, currency exchange, laundry/dry cleaning service, and an underground parking lot. Rooms are simple and stylishly decorated, with flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and red accents (but space can be limited and some rooms have old tube TVs). Larger and more luxurious rooms can be found at The Hotel for only slightly higher rates.

Scene

A modern chain hotel with artistic touches and on-site dining

Original artwork -- photographs and sculpture -- add a nice touch of style to the lobby that would otherwise look bland and chain-like. The lobby also features a chic sitting area with a sectional sofa, marble floors, and wood accents. Hallways are clean and modern, but lack design details to make them unique. Free coffee and a small Internet corner -- with a desk, PC computer, and printer/fax machine -- is also in the lobby, along with copies of newspapers. An upstairs lounge offers red sofas and bathrooms. The ground-floor bar and restaurant, Chez Louise, is trendy and provides street views with tall windows and a second level. Street access is available via a revolving door. The breakfast room offers a buffet and a children’s table, which is standard of NH hotels. Interior decor is casual and contemporary, with dark furniture and a mixture of red carpeting and wood flooring. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed.

Location

Centrally located in the shopping district of Brussels

The hotel is located off of Chaussee de Charleroi, a highly trafficked street. The area is convenient for high-end shopping and commuting to downtown. Within 15 minutes on foot is the embassy and the Belgium Policy center. Avenue Louise, with designer shopping, is a two-minute walk away. The palace is a 12-minute subway ride or 18 minutes on foot. Grand Place, the town center, is a 19-minute subway ride. The Manneken Pis sculpture is 10 minutes away by taxi and the airport is a 27-minute car ride. The Sainte Catherine church is a 26-minute drive. The Parc de Bruxelles is 14 minutes on foot.

Rooms

Small, stylish rooms with sofa beds and (in most) flat-screen TVs

Rooms feature neutral, modern furnishings with pops of red or checkered furniture. Some fixtures in bathrooms, though, are a bit worn. Space is limited in rooms -- the smallest are under 200 square feet -- and some have slanted walls. Rooms have minibars, sofa beds, pillow menus, safes, flat-screen TVs (tube TVs in some), writing desks, coffee/tea machines, bathrobes and slippers, and irons. Bathrooms are small and feature modern, silver fixtures, high-end toiletries, and shower/tub combos. Most rooms have unattractive views of other buildings. Standard Single Rooms don't have bathtubs, only showers. Windows don't open. Pets are allowed. The main difference between room categories is size; the largest category, the Junior Suite, has a sofa bed and can fit three guests. This hotel isn't well-suited to families with more than three members.

Features

Red accents in a stylish gym, modern restaurant, and a secured parking lot

A bright, stylish gym on the ninth floor is furnished with a bathroom, wood floors, modern equipment, a flat-screen TV, a water cooler, and clean towels. The gym features a slanted wall, painted red, that has small windows, which partially open. There are also cushioned red benches that add style to the small space. The hotel also offers a small underground parking lot that is available for a charge. There is a ground-floor restaurant and bar with tall windows that let in ample natural light and a cozy breakfast room with a daily buffet.
