Located on a quiet, picturesque street just a couple of blocks from Copenhagen's Nyhavn canal and the central Kongens Nytorv square, the Best Western Plus Hotel City Copenhagen is a mid-range hotel with few amenities but better-than-average decor, including mid-century Danish design furnishing and portraits of jazz artists on the walls. The free buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, business center with two computers, and bicycles to rent round out the convenient-for-tourists facilities. Rooms are on the smaller side, but are slightly more interesting than the chain standard, and the central location can't be beat. It's a better value than most in its price range in the city center.
Scene
Stylish take on a tourist-friendly chain, with Danish design and a jazz theme
Situated in an historic white building on a relatively quiet and residential street, the Best Western Plus Hotel City Copenhagen has more character than your average chain hotel. The lobby has a relaxed lounge area with brown leather chairs and wood tables that reflect classic Danish mid-century design; at the center is a quirky, modern fountain. Guests can order coffee or something stronger after a day of exploring the city, though most guests spend little time lounging at such a centrally located hotel. Off the lobby, there is a tiny pod-like room with a large Egg chair and an iPad for guest use, where guests can escape the bustle of the lobby for a private phone call. The history of each piece of Danish furniture found throughout the common areas is explained in the elevator, and prints of iconic jazz musicians can be found throughout the hotel. The breakfast room is spartan and basic, with no natural light.
Location
On quiet, picturesque street, steps from Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv, shops, and cafes
The Best Western Plus Hotel City Copenhagen is situated on a short, quiet street lined with the historic buildings typical of Copenhagen, most of which house residential apartments and commercial offices. At the end of the street, there are public transport connections, small shops and cafes, and the Havnebussen River, which runs right down the middle of the city. Kongens Nytorv, the Stroget shopping street, and the Nyhavn canal, with its touristy bars and restaurants, are all within a five-minute walk. The airport is 20-minutes away from the closest metro stop. Little Mermaid and Tivoli Gardens are each about a 20-minute walk, or 10-minute bike ride away.
Rooms
Standard chain fare with some colorful touches, Danish design furnishings, and iPod docks
More than half of the Best Western Plus Hotel City Copenhagen’s 81 rooms fall into the Standard category; unlike the Superior and Deluxe rooms, they don’t come with tea and coffee facilities, safes, or minibars. Otherwise, all rooms are pretty much the same, with black-and-white prints of iconic jazz musicians adorning the walls, mid-century Danish design-style furniture in brown leather and dark wood, and pops of color in the pillows and blankets. Deluxe rooms have slightly newer furnishings. All have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPod docks. Bathrooms are notably small and a bit worn; all have combination shower/tubs and are done in white tile. Rooms are generally quiet, facing either an internal courtyard or the quiet street; it's worth noting that higher-floor rooms are notably brighter. Some rooms have double and queen-sized beds that are two singles pushed together.
