Clean rooms, some with ocean views
Restaurant and long,
modern bar with terrace dining overlooking the beach

Dated facilities
No pool
Fee for umbrellas and loungers
Fee for towels, Wi-Fi, and in-room safes
There’s no pool at Evelyn Beach Hotel, a
dated, budget property steps from the beach, where fees are imposed for
everything from towels to safety deposit boxes. Half-board and full-board meal options are available, and the hotel prepares a lot of Greek salads for the
buffet, with terrace dining overlooking the beach. The 76 rooms are kept clean
but have an outdated feel. Still, guests recommend getting a room with a
balcony overlooking the ocean. Visitors looking for a lively location may want
to check out Pela Maria, a value hotel on the area’s main street with an
outdoor pool.****
Scene
Spacious lobby as well as an open-air bar and dining overlooking the beach
There aren’t a lot of common areas at
Evelyn Beach Hotel, but the spacious lobby combines several functional spaces,
including the front desk, seating areas, a billiards table, and a small bar.
The black marble front desk and floor-length white curtains gives the space a
dated, ‘80s feel. At the on-site restaurant, Greek salads are lined up on the
buffet table, and the dining area extends out onto a terrace overlooking the
beach. The open-air bar is decorated in shades of blue complementing its
seaside location. Just across the street, the sandy beach area stretches in
front of a line of hotels and can get crowded with lounge chairs. ****
Location
Across the street from the beach, near bars and shops
The Evelyn is located in an area busy with
foot traffic just across the street from the beach. It’s surrounded by other
hotels, and there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars within walking
distance. Heraklion International Airport is around a half-hour drive west, and
several historical destinations, including the Palace of Knossos, the Heraklion
Archaeological Museum, and the Historical Museum of Crete, are within a
45-minute drive west as well. Other nearby attractions include the
Cretaquarium and Palace of Malia. ****
Rooms
Plain rooms with small, tube-style TVs; ocean-view balconies available as well
Bright
orange bedding and hunter-green headboards brighten up otherwise plain,
rudimentary guest rooms with white walls and hard floors. Rooms with twin or
single beds are in need of an update as they have wall-mounted tube-style TVs and dated,
patterned curtains. Guests recommend staying in a unit that faces the ocean as
large, furnished balconies overlooking the beach are available. All rooms have
mini-fridges and central air-conditioning, and Wi-Fi and safety deposit boxes
are available for a fee. Bathrooms are small and no-frills with white walls, sinks, and showers.****
Features
Convenient location, friendly staff, and terrace dining with limited general amenities
There
aren’t a lot of extra amenities at Evelyn Beach Hotel. Its location, just
across the street from the beach, is its best asset, and guests can enjoy their
meals and drinks on a terrace with ocean views. The staff is friendly and
polite as well. The lobby has an Internet corner with two computers. Fees are
charged for a variety of additional amenities, including Wi-Fi, car-rental
services, beach/pool towel usage, and billiards. ****
