Bottom Line

Lynam's Hotel is a 42-room, two-pearl property in a prime location on O'Connell street, which buzzes with bars and restaurants frequented by locals and tourists alike. The 24-hour AirCoach service stops opposite the hotel, with a 30-minute direct connection to Dublin Airport. Room decor is tired; some rooms have mismatched color schemes, a hodgepodge of wooden furniture, and tube-style TVs. Breakfast is served daily in the adjoining Carlo's restaurant for a fee. Wi-Fi is free and the hotel offers room service. Off-site parking is available within a five-minute walk of the hotel, for a fee.

Scene

A conveniently located budget hotel with a handsome event space

Guests enter through fire-engine red doors off busy O'Connell Street to a dated, gray reception area that shows no evidence of the hotel's original Georgian architecture. The hotel appeals most to budget-minded travelers seeking a central city location. By contrast, the O'Connell Room is a handsomely decorated function space with brown-patterned carpet, comfortable chairs, and chandeliers. Breakfast is served daily in the adjoining Carlo's Restaurant for a fee.

Location

A budget price tag on busy O'Connell Street

Location at a budget price is what it's all about here, and Lynam's Hotel offers an excellent vantage point for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. But on any given day, guests are about a 10-minute walk to Tara Street Station, and a six-minute drive to Connolly Station, both with mainline railway and train service connections. Shopping addicts are a two-minute walk from Ilac Shopping Center, and a six-minute walk from Jervis Street Shopping Center. The hotel is home to the adjoining Carlo's Restaurant, serving all meals. O'Connell Street, where the hotel is located, has an abundance of restaurants and bars, and stays awake and lively throughout the night.

Rooms

Rundown rooms with hodgepodge furnishings and basic amenities

Lynam's Hotel has 42 budget rooms, which include Standard Singles, Doubles, Twins, and Triples. Rooms, which could use an update, have a hodgepodge of wooden furniture, mismatched color schemes, and tacky curtains. Bathrooms are clean and cheery, with a black-diamond pattern on floor to ceiling tiles, and a choice of shower or shower/tub combos. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, wall-mounted hairdryers, in-room safes, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and flat-screen or tube-style TVs with basic channels. Ironing boards can be requested at the hotel's reception.

Features

Free Wi-Fi, on-site restaurant, and an extensive room service menu

The Lynam's Hotel offers free Wi-Fi, but there are no parking, business, or fitness facilities available on-site. The adjoining Carlo's Restaurant serves a daily breakfast (for a fee) and Italian and Irish fusion cuisine for lunch and dinner at discounted rates to guests. Room service is available from lunchtime till the late evening with an extensive menu. But in truth, the Lynam's best feature is its O'Connell Street location at a budget price.
