A departure from the two AYANA sister properties closer to the ocean, the RIMBA Jimbaran Bali emphasizes modernist spaces infused with Balinese style. The hotel's 282 rooms and suites feature contemporary decor that makes heavy use of natural materials. All rooms have private balconies with hillside or bay views (some upgrades provide patios with daybeds and direct lagoon-pool access) and walk-in rainfall showers along with separate soaking tubs. The setting here is very adult; no kids under 16 are allowed which makes for a quiet, couple-friendly retreat. And though it would be an idyllic setting for a wedding, such gatherings are not allowed in order to protect the privacy and tranquility of the resort for other guests. The 13 grand, spacious villas feature lots of natural light, canopy beds, and outdoor -- yet completely private -- bathrooms with deep sunken tubs.

One of the only hotels in the Jimbaran Beach area that's directly on the ocean, the mid-sized Jimbaran Puri is a quiet Balinese escape with a luxurious yet relaxed vibe. Spacious, rustic-luxe rooms have patios or private pools, though the tradeoff for the high level of privacy afforded is that many lack ocean views. A large, chic pool with a poolside bar faces the ocean and sunset and spa services are available on the beach. There's also a full-service spa and room service, adding to the romantic vibe of the property.

This hillside resort property near Jimbaran Beach offers 21 villas with one to four bedrooms, each with its own pool and fully equipped kitchen. Decorated with dark-wood floors and furnishings, shuttered windows, Persian-style rugs, and canopy beds with French lace, the villas blend in well with their Balinese setting. Gigantic bathrooms with deep bathtubs and separate walk-in showers add an element of luxury. The upscale property is not on the beach, but guests have full privileges at the Jimbaran Beach Club, and a free shuttle to get there.

Popular with families and couples, this all-villa property is off of Jimbaran's main road and has a nearby beach club. The 16 villas have private pools with padded lounge pavilions and fountains, and bathrooms with separate soaking tubs and walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, plus second outdoor showers. Hotel features include a restaurant and bar, where a free buffet breakfast is served daily, plus a beach club, spa, and motorcycle and car rentals.

The 10-room upper-middle-range Balquisse Heritage Hotel is a romantic boutique resort with a private getaway vibe, two outdoor pools, and an exotic full-service spa. The Balquisse feels remote, but sits on the Jimbaran boardwalk, a 10-minute walk from the beach. Asam Garan serves Indonesian food in a lovely pavilion, but breakfast isn't included in all room rates. Guest rooms are large, clean, and individually decorated with plantation-style antiques, lush textiles, and private terraces. For privacy and special, thoughtful decor, the Balquisse is ideal, but if guests want sea views and beachfront, the Villas at AYANA Resort is a good alternative.
