The Bayswater Inn is a budget hotel in the London neighborhood of the same name. While convenient for tourists for its proximity to Hyde Park, Paddington, and Notting Hill Gate, the hotel experience is fairly poor. The hotel is dark and dated; carpets in the hallways are worn thin. The rooms are compact and give off a musty smell. In some showers, mold has been found. A stay at the Bayswater includes a hot buffet breakfast, but Wi-Fi is only available in the common areas and it comes with a fee.
Scene
A plain, unadorned value hotel
The reception area of the Bayswater Inn is simple, but recently renovated, while the hallways are rundown and musty, with visibly worn carpeting. In addition to one or two cushioned seats, there are two tables with hardback chairs across from the reception desk. The lobby is one of the few places the Bayswater provides Wi-Fi, which comes with a fee. Outside, the Bayswater has more charm. It’s in the middle of a block of classic townhouses (which are mostly other hotels and guesthouses), all of which have white columned entranceways and beautiful wrought iron fencing around the second floor windows.
Location
In central London, convenient for tourists wanting to check out the Kensington/Notting Hill area
Located in central London, the Bayswater Inn is convenient for tourists. It’s a five-minute walk to the Kensington Gardens (home to Kensington Palace) and just west of Hyde Park. Notting Hill Gate is also about five minutes, while Paddington station is about 15 minutes walking or by Tube. The hotel is a few minutes walk to the Bayswater Tube stop, allowing easy travel all around London.
Rooms
Small, with mold in some bathrooms
The rooms at the Bayswater Inn are simple and sparse. They come in a variety of styles -- from one double bed, to three single beds, to combinations of the two. All rooms are small with some, but not much, space to move around, though there is a small vanity/desk. There is also a flat-screen TV and a kettle for tea or instant coffee. While many rooms are recently renovated and utilize nice wood laminate furniture, they remain dim and unappealing in brown and green stripes. There is almost nothing on the walls, except for perhaps one unframed print of a classic London scene. Bathrooms are also small, and while clean overall, there is mold in some showers.
Features
Hot breakfast and catered dinner room service
Outside of its convenient central London location, the Bayswater Inn offers little more than a place to sleep. The hotel is sparse and its rooms range from modest to uninviting. The hotel does offer a hot buffet breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, baked goods, yogurt, cereals, and more. For evening and late night, the Bayswater has partnered with Room Seasons, a company that prepares and delivers menu items to guests within the hour. Room Seasons’s menu includes sandwiches, pasta, curry, stew, and more.
