Scene

Cosy and comfortable, with a warm welcome

Tucked within a tall Victorian townhouse is a pleasant and modest family-run hotel that excels in cleanliness, comfort, warm hospitality, and good value. The decor is old-fashioned but pleasant, with deep red carpets and some preserved Victorian features in the lobby hall. Even the stairwells are decked with beautiful tall archways and delicate sculpting. Beware the lack of an elevator however -- an inconvenient consequence of a government-listed period building.

Location

On a quiet side street just north of Hyde Park

One of the biggest perks of this hotel is its location. It's close enough to several tube stations for easy access to many of London's famous sights, yet tucked far enough away from London’s manic urban mayhem. The hotel is primarily surrounded by residential flats and other budget hotels, and local conveniences such as restaurants and shops are a bit farther away on foot.

Rooms

Basic, clean, and pleasant, with warm tones

The furnishings in these small-sized rooms may be a bit outdated (think mismatching blue carpets with rose-toned comforters in a vague Aztec pattern), but rooms are generally clean and pleasant, with a good amount of natural light and a peaceful vibe. Bath towels are provided and continental breakfast is included in the rates, but only very basic amenities are in the rooms: modest-sized flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee, and a couple bars of soap. And, again, not every room comes with a private bathroom.

Features

Continental breakfast in a preserved Victorian building

Shades of peach and coral predominate in the breakfast room, where a decent continental breakfast is served and included in the room rate. Because the property is a government-listed period building, there is plenty of old-world charm to the hotel including delicate archways and beautifully sculpted ceilings. This also means that the property is not equipped with more modern features, chief among them, an elevator.
