Decor in rooms is dated, including patterned bedspreads
Originally built in the 1970s, the 55-room Dunes Inn - Sunset is a dated value hotel located in Sunset Boulevard in a busy commercial area. Fast food restaurants and a Home Depot are in the immediate area, and popular sights such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Paramount Studios are nearby. Rooms are clean and spacious with mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs, though dated decor includes cheap patterned bedspreads. The hotel offers free parking and has a diner and bar on the property, where guests receive a discount, but the area doesn't always feel completely safe at night.
Scene
Dated hotel surrounding large parking lot, with friendly atmosphere
This value hotel was built in the 1970s and has maintained that style over the decades. The check-in area is a small room on the ground floor with a dated couch, posters on the walls, tourism pamphlets, and a computer and printer. The front desk is behind a wood paneled wall that has a window where guests can speak to the person behind the desk. Despite this lack of polish, the hotel has a young, international clientele and a friendly atmosphere -- guests are known to gather and chat outside their rooms.
Location
Located in a commercial area of Sunset Boulevard, near fast food restaurants and a short drive to popular attractions
The hotel is located on the famous Sunset Boulevard, however it is not considered to be part of the Sunset Strip. It is in a commercial area near a lot of fast food restaurants and across the street from a Home Depot. Although it is a convenient location, it is not the safest neighborhood at night. It is also near many popular attractions.- 3-minute drive to Hollywood Walk of Fame
Rooms
Spacious, clean rooms with generic, dated decor
Rooms are spacious and clean but basic and no frills. With rose colored walls, dark carpet, basic wood furniture, patterned bedspreads, and generic artwork, the rooms have a dated look. Each room has a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, and free Wi-Fi. Outside of the bathroom is a vanity area with a mirror, sink, and small closet. The bathroom itself is the most modern looking part of the room, with contemporary beige tiled floors and walls, a toilet, and shower/tub combo.
Features
Diner and lounge on property, computer in lobby, and free Wi-Fi
Guests are offered a discount to the Dreams Cafe & Lounge, a traditional looking diner and bar that serves classic American food, which is located on the same property as the hotel. The bar has a 1970s' vibe, with a juke box and lounge seating. The hotel itself offers free Wi-Fi and has a computer and printer in the lobby. Parking is generous and free.
