See our expert picks for the Majorca hotels that deliver the best value for travelers.

  1. The upscale 75-room Esplendido Hotel has hip retro decor and a prime location on Port de Soller's bay-front promenade. Sophisticated rooms provide flat-screen TVs with DVD players, Nespresso machines, and free minibars; some can be small, but many offer superb sea views. There are separate family-friendly and adult-only pools, plus a third one in the hotel's deluxe spa. A free buffet breakfast with a cooked-to-order egg station and free Wi-Fi add to its value.

  2. Hoposa Daina Hotel is an upscale, landmark property with a prime seafront location overlooking Port de Pollensa's marina and sandy beach. Its 67 rooms all benefitted from a 2015 and 2016 refresh, and most feature at least partial sea views; top-floor rooms are treated to panoramas from particularly spacious terraces. A standout feature is the large saltwater swimming pool, which includes a poolside bar and sunbed waiter service. Evening entertainment and food quality impress (breakfast with cooked-to-order eggs is included in rate), though fitness facilities could use improvement and there's no spa. It's basically a solid all-rounder likely to appeal to most types of vacationers. Wi-Fi is free throughout, including around the pool.

  3. The 285-unit, family-friendly Viva Can Picafort is an apartment hotel with all-inclusive options. There is a full slate of activities for adults, plus a large pool complex with a pirate ship water park for kids. The apartments are all spacious, clean one-bedrooms, with a variety of layouts and private balconies or gardens; bathrooms are modern and roomy. The a la carte and buffet dining options, games room and sports fields, coin laundry, and full grocery store also contribute to this property's appeal for families.

  4. The 198-room Viva Palmanova is an upscale, family-focused resort hotel located in the popular Palmanova district of Majorca, just a few minutes' walk from the beach. The hotel features an impressive number of pools, ranging from water park splash pools to adult-only surrounded by double daybeds. Children are particularly well-catered for, though decent spa facilities also allow parents some decent downtime. The optional all-inclusive plan is one of the better around and makes Palmanova a good value. The package covers buffet breakfast and dinner (including two themed meals per week) as well as a wide selection of hot and cold dishes from the lunchtime a la carte menu at the Bistro and a long list of soft and alcoholic drinks, including plenty of branded spirits, quality wines, and cocktails.

  5. With 99 apartments and 52 studios, Sol Cala d'Or Apartamentos is a solid all-inclusive option. It offers some of the most pleasant rooms of the properties in its category, and for self-catering guests, the impressively contemporary and well-stocked kitchenettes in each of the apartments are definitely a perk. Rooms have spacious balconies and there is a big, striking pool (though the fight for loungers begins early in the morning).

  6. One of three Gavimar hotels in Cala D'Or, La Mirada Club Resort is the smallest, with 120 rooms and apartments. Units are dated and have basic kitchenettes, though most guests opt for the all-inclusive option for dining. There's just one busy swimming pool that hosts poolside animation and entertainment -- which is a hit or miss. It can get too noisy for some, and guests complain that there are not enough sunbeds. The Cala Egos setting is one of the more peaceful, and the beach is a two-minute walk away, though those looking for nightlife should look elsewhere. All in all it's a pleasant enough budget option popular with young families.

  7. The value-oriented Club MAC Alcudia is an all-inclusive, super child-friendly resort complex set on the edge of Majorca's tourist town of Port d'Alcudia. It has over a thousand rooms, and hordes of overexcited children can inevitably make this one raucous hotel. With so much to do, however -- including eight pools and free entry to the adjoining water park -- kids certainly won't be bored. Standard Rooms feel dated and have fees for Wi-Fi and most TV channels; upgrading to the renovated Premium Rooms, which have Wi-Fi and more channels included, is worth the extra outlay. The all-inclusive plan covers decent buffet fare and a good range of drinks (that some guests have been known to overindulge in).

  8. The mid-range Bahia de Pollensa Aparthotel is an apartment complex situated in a residential neighborhood a few minutes' walk from Pollensa's lovely sandy beach. While the location is relatively serene, it's a 15-minute walk from the resort center and its pleasant beachfront promenade. Most of the 137 apartments could use a makeover, though some have been updated, and all open to terraces or balconies. There's little dining in the immediate vicinity and the hotel's restaurant is average, though an on-site supermarket provides self-catering supplies.

  9. The mid-range Aparthotel Flora is a relatively small, resort-style apartment complex set two blocks from Port de Pollensa's beach and seafront promenade. Apartments are unfussy and modern, with basic kitchenettes, TV lounges, and clean well-maintained bathrooms. All units open to balconies or terraces, most overlooking the pool, which can get a little overcrowded during busier times. A bar-restaurant provides good-value food and drink, and there's a supermarket just across the road. Kids are pretty well catered for, with playground, video games, and a mini-club, though adult entertainment isn't the best.

  10. Aluasun Torrenova is your classic '70s-era value-oriented resort hotel. Its 254 guest rooms are pretty dated, but all open to balconies, some with glimpses of the sea. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of two stretches of sandy beach, as well as Magaluf's wild nightlife. While there's a good collection of pools for all ages, an early-morning scrum for poolside loungers is not uncommon and overcrowding can be an issue at peak season. There is plenty for the kids to do as well as an all-inclusive option, so it's not surprising this hotel is a popular pick with families.

  11. There are 416 guest rooms at this hotel that's only a two-minute walk from Santa Ponsa’s beach and town center. The hotel has a nice range of facilities, including an indoor pool and spa, and two outdoor pools -- one of which is on the roof and for adults only. The hotel has a mediocre buffet restaurant with live cooking stations, plus a bar, snack bar, and live entertainment, and half- and full-board rates are available. Guest rooms are a cut above others in the area and have a modern, stylish look, with sleek furniture plus free Wi-Fi and large flat-screen TVs.
