Residence Inn Memphis Downtown

Memphis, Tennessee, United States

All of Residence Inn Memphis Downtown's 90 rooms are suites whose size and in-room kitchens makes them especially suited to families, groups, and travelers on extended stays. Room types include studios and one- and two-bedroom units; all have kitchens with ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, and coffeemakers, as well as separate and working areas, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. Two-Bedroom Suites have views over the Mississippi River. Wallpapered bathrooms have shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries plus spacious granite vanities. Shared hotel features include a library, barbecue grills, laundry room, rooftop terrace, and fitness center. Residence Inn hosts an evening reception with drinks and snacks a few nights a week and serves a free breakfast daily. The hotel also offers a free grocery shopping service -- guests simply fill out their grocery lists and the hotel's staff will purchase and deliver items to rooms. Note that parking here is valet only, for a fee.

Hampton Inn & Suites Memphis – Beale Street

Memphis, Tennessee, United States

The 144-room Hampton Inn & Suites is a popular mid-range chain hotel popular with a central downtown location. Some of the spacious, air-conditioned rooms have balconies offering views of the Memphis skyline. Rooms include 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, coffeemakers, desks, and ironing facilities. Suites have separate livings areas and kitchenettes with microwaves, sinks, full-size refrigerators, counters with stools, and dishwashers. Note that some rooms pick up traffic noise and the sounds of Beale Street late into the night -- light sleepers might want to inquire about quieter rooms. Hampton Inn doesn't have Residence Inn's special grocery shopping service or regular receptions, but it does have an indoor pool and hot tub (a feature Residence Inn lacks), and the same property-wide free Wi-Fi, free hot breakfast, and fitness center. Hampton Inn allows on-site self-parking (Residence Inn is valet-only), but it comes with a fee.

Memphis, Tennessee, United States

This mid-range Staybridge Suites has 114 apartment-style studio or one-bedroom suites with kitchens. The hotel is in East Memphis business district -- near the corporate headquarters of Kroger, Service Master, and International Paper. It's about a 20-minute drive from downtown, where are our first two extended-stay hotel picks are located. To compensate for its far-out location, Staybridge offers free airport shuttle service and parking (which costs a fee at both Residence Inn and Hampton Inn), and as well as Wi-Fi. It also has an outdoor pool, a snack shop, and laundry facilities. Like Residence Inn, Staybridge occasionally holds evening socials with free drinks and hors d'oeuvres during the week.

The 67-room La Quinta Inn & Suites Wolfchase is even further from downtown -- about a 25-minute drive -- than Staybridge. There is a wide array of room sizes to choose from, including Double Rooms, King Suites, and Two-Room Family Suites. All rooms come with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, work desks, and 42-inch flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are spacious and stylish too, with dark wood laminate floors and granite countertops. They include shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers, though King Suites come with jetted tubs. Like our top three picks, La Quinta offers free breakfast, laundry and fitness facilities, and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi. Parking is free here, as it is at Staybridge.
