The Ryad Mogador Menzah is a mid-range apartment hotel situated about a 10-minute drive from Marrakech's medina. The hotel has 188 spacious, apartment-style studios and suites, all of which have stocked kitchenettes and balconies, but there's no in-room Wi-Fi and guests sometimes note plumbing or AC issues. There's a large central terrace with a pool and separate kids' pool, but it's not heated and its upkeep gets mixed reviews. The hotel also has a restaurant and spa offering a range of beauty treatments and massages, in addition to a hammam. Inconsistent service and wear-and-tear take this hotel down a notch, but it's adequately clean and fairly well priced considering the amenities. The Ryad Mogador Kasbah offers comparable digs, but it's also outside of the medina and not within walking distance of tourist sites.
Scene
Apartment-style hotel with classic Moroccan decor that could use some TLC
Ryad Mogador Menzah sits in a square building with inset balconies, top cornice detailing, and a traditional reddish-pink Moroccan facade. An atrium-style lobby offers classic decor with beige tiled floors paired with reddish-pink walls. A central structure features intricate brick work, while the reception desk and a decorative fountain offer colorful mosaic tiling. Little alcoves off the lobby also show off decorative tiling and offer cozy spots to relax in, with long, traditional bench-style seating finished with a plethora of pillows. While the hotel is adequately clean, it could use some TLC -- guests complain about wear-and-tear and some maintenance issues. These issues are reflected in the price, though, which tends to be cheaper than other hotels outside of the medina with similar amenities. It's ideal for budget-minded travelers who prefer to stay beyond the hustle and bustle of the medina.
Location
Near a main road with a mall and grocery store, about a 10-minute drive to the medina
The hotel is located outside of the old medina, about a five-minute walk from Avenue Mohammed VI, a main road lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops, including the Menara Mall and Carrefour Market, which are both about a 10-minute walk from the property. The labyrinthian pedestrian streets of the medina and it's popular Jemaa el Fnaa square are about a 10-minute drive away, but it's a bit of a hike on foot. Marrakech Menara Airport is around a 10-minute drive. The hotel offers free on-site parking.
Rooms
Spacious, apartment-style rooms with stocked kitchenettes, balconies, and AC, but no in-room Wi-Fi
This hotel offers a range of spacious apartments with kitchenettes, from entry-level studios (about 260 square feet) to two-bedroom apartments (about 650 square feet) that sleep five to six adults. Rooms have a slightly dated feel and furniture tends to show wear and tear. Room decor varies but is usually simple, with traditional Moroccan details like tiled floors, salmon-colored walls or trim, hanging lantern-style lighting, and long, low sofas filled with cushions. Furniture tends to be simple wood pieces, though some rooms offer more ornate carved pieces with a vintage feel. Kitchens usually feature white tiling, light wood cabinets, and mosaic-tiled counters. Bathrooms are basic with beige and white tiling and small shower stalls. Rooms feature small balconies, many of them facing the courtyard pool. All rooms are air-conditioned and include flat-screen TVs, but Wi-Fi, which is free in the common areas, does not necessarily extend to guest rooms. Rooms also may not have safes. Kitchens include hotplates, sinks, mini-fridges, toaster ovens, tea kettles, and a range of cooking utensils and dishes. Bathrooms include free toiletries as well as towels, but some guest complain the towels are threadbare, and there are no hairdryers. Guests find the rooms adequately clean, but there have been some complaints about malfunctioning room keys, plumbing, and AC issues.
Features
Restaurant, spa, outdoor pool and kids' pool -- but some areas need upkeep
This property checks off most of the amenities and functional services typical for a mid-range resort, though some meet expectations better than others. There's a casual on-site restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, in addition to a daily breakfast buffet. The breakfast isn't always included in the room rate, and has a pretty basic offering of pastries, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, etc. Room service is available during limited hours. There's a decent spa on the bottom floor of the hotel that offers a range of massage and beauty treatments, as well as a sauna, hammam, and salon. The central courtyard includes a large outdoor pool, open all year (though it's not heated), and a separate children's pool. The terrace surrounding the pool has loungers, tables, and drink service. Guests sometimes complain the pool area is not well kept, though the pool itself tends to be clean. There is no gym.The hotel has a 24-hour front desk, but staff service is inconsistent. The hotel offers currency exchange, luggage storage, and laundry service. Free parking is available on-site.
