Bottom Line

Packed with adult entertainment and leisure facilities, Mount Airy Casino Resort is also the only four-pearl property in the region. It has several eating options spanning the spectrum from junk food to semi-fine dining, with a Guy Fieri restaurant falling somewhere in between. A large interconnected indoor/outdoor pool is on hand as well as a seasonal golf course. Rooms are modern and quiet, despite all the action downstairs at the heart of the hotel -- the smoking-allowed casino. The hotel maintains non-smoking rooms with hefty fines for breaking the rule, but smells can still be pervasive throughout common areas.

Oyster Hotel Review

Adult playground in the mountains

A faux rock wall waterfall under a spectacular red-lit chandelier makes for a dramatic entrance, and the real stone used throughout the lobby and halls of Mount Airy ensures that the property blends well with its natural surroundings despite all the electronic gambling. Landscape art looms on high, overlooking spacious, contemporary common areas. With on-site attractions close to the 24-hour casino, including restaurants and the pool, one doesn't have to go far for entertainment or leisure here. The downside (for some) is that the casino's smoke tends to waft everywhere. The hotel also assigns mandatory security escorts to all children and young adults under 21 in common areas, making Mount Airy a generally poor choice for families.

In the mountains outside of town

Mount Airy Casino Resort is in a beautiful area close to the town of Mount Pocono, convenient to the I-380 Interstate. There are no popular attractions within walking distance, but the large open-air Crossings Premium Outlets mall is less than a 10-minute drive south. The Camelback ski area is also under 20 minutes south by car. Mount Pocono is a small town in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, known for camping, hiking, and numerous ski resorts that attract residents of New York and Washington, D.C.

Leather chairs, iPod docks, and Keurig machines in modern spaces

Built in 2007, the hotel's 188 rooms have a modern decor that alternates between warm earth tones and darker palates of charcoal and blue. Typical rooms have entryways with wood floors and closets, opening to bedrooms with gray carpets. Small windows give the rooms an even darker profile, and while some units have pleasant views of the grounds, others have poor views looking into common areas. Leather roller chairs accompany built-in desks which have extra spaces for Keurig machines and stocked minibars. Bathrooms include large tiled walk-in showers with glass doors and handheld showerheads.

Casino, indoor/outdoor pool, and full spa

Most of the gambling goes down in a smoky main casino room with all manner of slot machines and 80-some gaming tables including poker, blackjack, and roulette. There's also a non-smoking lounge with poker tables and more slots. The resort has regular live entertainment, with the occasional celebrity act passing through. The private event facilities, which can be geared toward weddings, include a conference hall and meeting rooms for business travelers.

Housed in a glass atrium, the massive indoor pool connects via a passageway to the seasonal outdoor pool, ultimately making up 51,000 square feet of combined pool area. Inside, connected whirlpools, water features, and sculptures make the atrium a lively place to lounge on a day bed in one of the poolside private cabanas (for a fee). The large outdoor deck has more cabanas and table-side fire pits, but the main outdoor feature is the 18-hole golf course, though it's only open seasonally. The spa has saunas and relaxation rooms as well as numerous treatment rooms with a full range of typical services. There's also an attached hair and nail salon. The fitness room is windowless but covers all the necessities, offering up treadmills, cardio bikes, and weight-training machines, with flat-screen TVs mounted on walls.

Multiple bars and eateries

Dining choices abound, from the standard all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant to the more upscale Red SteakhouseNoodle Bar serves pan-Asian stir fries and soups and Get Wet does snacks and lunches, poolside. Celebrity chef Guy Fieri's Mt. Pocono Kitchen makes the biggest impression, even if its food doesn't quite live up to the hype. Focused on heart-attack-inducing comfort foods, signature dishes like his Motley Que Pulled Pork Sandwich and Guy's Big Bite Burrito packed with three kinds of meat and smothered in "donkey sauce" can be paired with craft beers and/or several over-the-top booze and ice cream concoctions. On-site chains like Starbucks and Red Mango provide familiar conveniences and snacks.
