The three-pearl Hotel Villablanca Huatulco is an inviting Mexican hotel with rustic decor and a laid-back, relaxed vibe near Playa Chahue. The 61 rooms are spacious and simple with high-speed air-conditioning, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. All rooms come with balconies, though some have spacious patios. Scene

Laid-back and relaxed hotel with a busy pool terrace and quiet vibe

Hotel Villablanca Huatulco packs plenty of Mexican-inspired charm into a relatively small package. With an open-air lobby and rustic decor, the hotel feels laid-back and relaxed. The poolside restaurant can be busy during the morning and evening for the breakfast and dinner rush, while the pool is pretty busy throughout the afternoon and evening. Travelers can expect to see a lot of families here, so the pool area can be especially busy. While many guests do head out to the beach or to explore the region, plenty spend a bit of time at the hotel as well. During the day, the front porch area has a few tables and chairs as well as a small game area. By night, this area changes into the Restaurant Parotas for dinner. The Bar Tabachines is open in the afternoon and evening for guests to gather and socialize over beer, wine, and mixed drinks. The brightly colored bar has a few purple couches and bar stools for guests to use.

Location

Outside La Crucecita, a seven-minute walk from Playa Chahue

The hotel is located on the well-trafficked road, Benito Juarez Boulevard, on the outskirts of the small town of La Crucecita. It's just a three-minute walk from the mega department and grocery store, Super Che, and a 15-minute walk from the restaurants and shops of downtown La Crucecita. Travelers can expect traditional Mexican street food -- flautas, tacos, and tamales -- along Boulevard Chahue, a two-minute walk from the hotel. Popular Playa Chahue is only a seven-minute walk from the hotel, making this a solid pick for those planning on spending most of their time along the shore. The restaurants, shops, and markets of the small tourist town, Santa Cruz, are five minutes away by car, as is Las Parotas Golf Club. Budget around 20 minutes to drive to the Huatulco International Airport.

Rooms

Rustic and simple rooms which range in size, all with balconies, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs

Across all categories, rooms have a simple and rustic charm, ranging in size from suites with lofts to moderately sized standard rooms. Many of the rooms come with dark wooden tables and straw thatched chairs, purple wooden futon couches, and small desk areas. The warm yellow and wood tones -- plus details like talavera tiling -- add a nice dose of charm. Guests can expect simple wooden beds with beige bedspreads, striped bed runners, and red accent throw pillows. Standard features include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and high-speed air-conditioning. The Wi-Fi an be a bit spotty. Rooms have plenty of storage space, and many rooms include large mahogany armoires. The balconies are the highlight of many of the rooms, which range from small spots overlooking the pool to spacious walk-out patios along the pool terrace. The Junior and Master Suite are nice upgrades for the extra bedroom space or lofts as well as separate living rooms. Bathrooms are small, with the sink and tiled counters outside the water closet. All include towels, toiletries, and hairdryers, plus tiled standing showers and magnifying mirrors.

Features

Open-air poolside restaurant, spacious pool terrace, off-premise spa, plus free parking and Wi-Fi

Hotel Villablanca Huatulco has a nice array of features for a mid-range property, though some restaurants are only open based on occupancy. Restaurant Jacarandas overlooks the pool and serves traditional Mexican breakfasts, lunches, and dinners with Oaxacan flavors. Guests have the option to include breakfast in the room rate. Adjacent to the restaurant is Bar Tabachines, a small bar with a handful of couches and chairs serving beer, wine, and mixed drinks in the evening. Restaurant Parota is an a la carte option that offers international cuisine infused with Mexican flavors. Room service is available throughout the day. The hotel is centered around a spacious pool terrace with plenty of orange cushioned lounge chairs and a few orange umbrellas. The area can be busy during the day and into the night with families. Free morning coffee by the pool is a nice extra. A small game area is set up at the front of the hotel, with ping-pong and pool tables for guests to use. An off-premise spa, Xquenda Huatulco Spa, is available for guests an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Xquenda features a small and tranquil pool terrace, simple massage rooms, and a traditional temazcal (Mexican steam room). It's part of a beach club with which the hotel has an arrangement. The hotel has limited free parking, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
