The 50-room Garibaldi House Inn & Suites operates like a very large bed-and-breakfast, adding homey touches that give the property a personal touch. Located about five minutes from picturesque Rockaway Beach -- the area's major draw for the beautiful coastal landscape -- and 55 miles from the busier Astoria, the hotel is a good choice as a home base for exploring this region of the Oregon Coast. Free Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, and an extensive breakfast are some of the perks that makes this three-pearl property a great value, but rooms are dated and could use updates.
Scene
Warm and inviting lobby
Though the exterior of the hotel does't impress -- it's reminiscent of a roadside motel -- the lobby is far more appealing, with large leather couches, a fireplace, and seasonal decorations like leaves on the mantel for autumn. It's a welcoming, though not super stylish, place to spend some time outside of the guest rooms, and the owners do their best to make guests comfortable with hot coffee and cookies available all day, and light appetizers like cheese, sausage, and crackers put out in the evening. The indoor, shallow pool is in a wood-lined room decorated with potted plants and old-fashioned cushioned chairs.
Location
A good home base hotel for exploring coastal Oregon.
Five minutes from the picturesque Rockaway Beach -- one of coastal Oregon's premier destinations -- at the north end of Tillamook Bay is Garibaldi House Inn & Suites. Located off scenic coastal Highway 101, 55 miles from Astoria, and 75 miles from Newport, it's a great home base for exploring the region. The immediate area is known for fishing, crabbing, and clam digging. A popular activity is chartering a boat, catching fish, and having it cooked at the harbor -- easy to do across the street at the Port of Garibaldi, an authentic fishing port that shelters small, independent, family-owned sports and commercial fishing vessels. The area is the home to the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad where coastal tours are available. About a 10-minute drive away is the Tillamook Cheese Factory where visitors sample locally made dairy products.
Rooms
A variety of room sizes with dated decor but comfortable amenities.
All 50 of the rooms and suites at the Garibaldi House Inn & Suites come equipped with a mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, hairdryer, and iron/ironing board. Rooms are clean and comfortable and come in a variety of sizes from the smallest Queen Room to Double Queen to a Family Room with a partial wall that separates the bedroom from the living space. All rooms are decorated similarly -- gray carpet, burgundy bedding, and a light-wood TV cabinet that looks dated. Some rooms have tube-style TVs. Simple bathrooms include single sinks and shower/tub combos.
Features
Lovely little touches like cookies and coffee make give the hotel a homey feel.
Though the amenities at the Garibaldi House Inn & Suites aren't grand, it's the little things the hotel excels at that makes the place feel like home. Aside from free Wi-Fi and an extensive breakfast buffet included in the room rate, there's also hot coffee and cookies available throughout the day, plus barbecue for guests to grill out. There's a laundry facility (extra charge), a heated indoor swimming pool, a sauna, and a communal computer available free of charge. An on-site fitness room is simple and small, but gets the job done with cardio and weight machines.
