The Pantheon, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the banks of the Seine are within easy walking distance, and the lively tourist-filled area has plenty of restaurants and cafes. Rooms are small but clean, and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Some have Juliet balconies and lovely views of the city. Guests might want to also consider the nearby Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain, which is managed by the same company.
Scene
Contemporary lobby with sitting area
Renovated in 2012, the hotel has an earth-toned decor. Striking leaf-print wallpaper covers two walls of the small lobby, which has a small wood-paneled front desk set under hanging lamps. Huge floral arrangements flank the entryway, with a lounge on one side where the sculptural light fixtures glow and natural light seeps in through Venetian blinds. The contemporary-style furniture looks nondescript and worn around the edges (expect chipping paint on wooden chair arms, and the like).
Location
Quiet street in the Latin Quarter
The Agora Saint Germain is located in the fifth arrondissement, on a small, quiet street in the Latin Quarter surrounded by cafes and restaurants, about six blocks away from the Sorbonne and the Cluny Museum of Medieval Art. Both Notre Dame and the Pantheon are within a 10-minute walk (in opposite directions), and the Luxembourg Gardens is 15 to 20 minutes away on foot. The hotel is closest to the Maubert Mutualite metro station (Line 10, which crosses the city east to west), making it easy to navigate Paris. Expect at least a 40-minute drive to Charles de Gaulle Airport, depending on traffic; Orly Airport is about a 30-minute drive.
Rooms
Contemporary if slightly generic rooms with minibars and desks
Though the Agora Saint Germain's 39 rooms come in six categories, including Twins and Triples, Standard, Comfort, Deluxe, and Superior, the differences are mainly in the views and the number of beds. All rooms come with small desks, chairs, reading lamps, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. All except Standard Rooms come with coffee- and tea-making facilities. Contemporary furnishings are in earth tones, with brown carpets in varying patterns (some are floral, others geometric), and some Paris-themed art on the walls (mostly framed black-and-white photography). Smaller rooms have bathrooms with tiny walk-in showers, and others have more breathing space with shower/tub combos. All come toiletries and hairdryers. Deluxe Rooms with Juliet balconies on the upper floor offer the best views.
Features
Attractive breakfast room and free international newspapers
A continental breakfast (for an extra charge) is served downstairs in an old stone cellar -- breakfast is a spread of yogurt, various jams, cereal, ham, cheese, croissants, pain au chocolat, pain aux raisins, baguettes, and boiled eggs, with fruit juices, tea, coffee and chocolate drinks available. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and international newspapers are available.
