The
mid-range Hotel Concorde Montparnasse is a large hotel with modern
facilities that draws couples and business travelers. Its 354 rooms are
spacious, if a touch generic and dated, and include minibars, flat-screen
TVs, and roomy bathrooms. Two restaurants and a bar with occasional live music
round out the facilities, while meeting rooms and a business center make it convenient for business travelers. Another key highlight for those travelers is the location, in the business district, a short walk to the train station. But those looking for rooms with more Parisian style could consider the Hotel Palm Opera, another mid-range hotel with far more flair.
Scene
Large mid-range hotel with a business vibe
Set on a
circular drive in a large stone and glass building, the Hotel Concorde
Montparnasse -- built in 2004 -- has a modern and largely
impersonal business vibe. The lobby features low ceilings, wooden floors, and a contemporary, but
simplistic, wooden front desk. Next to the curved wall are seating areas with leather couches. The on-site O’40
Restaurant has walls of windows, wooden floors, and small tables with
white runners. By contrast, the La Wenge Bar has funky leather armchairs,
booths, low lighting, and a large bar top. However, the orange columns, carpets, and walls doesn't tie into the rest of the decor. Guests include a mix of vacationing couples and business travelers.
Location
Located in Montparnasse, within walking distance of the Montparnasse Tower
Hotel
Concorde Montparnasse is set in a business district in the Montparnasse
neighborhood. Across the street from the hotel is the Jardin Atlantique, a city park with jogging paths and a playground. An eight-minute walk away is the Montparnasse Tower, which has a rooftop viewing deck that offers superb views of Paris. The
Montparnasse Cemetery, home to famous French artists and statesmen, is a
10-minute walk away. For shopping, Le Bon Marche takes 24 minutes on foot. The closest metro stop takes six minutes on foot to
reach, and using the metro guests can reach other major Parisian attractions such as the Eiffel Tower (27 minutes), Louvre Museum (24 minutes), or the Arc de Triomphe (29 minutes). The Gare Montparnasse train station, with connections to southern France, takes seven minutes on foot, and Charles de Gaulle Airport is a 35-minute
drive away.
Rooms
Simple, modern rooms with flat-screen TVs and minibars
The rooms
at Hotel Concorde Montparnasse feature maroon or black carpets, white linens, wooden furniture, and black-and-white framed prints of the Eiffel Tower. The decor is pleasant enough, though it's a bit tired and generic compared to the rest of the hotel. Rooms are big by Paris standards, and some have views of the
Eiffel Tower. All rooms include coffee- and tea-making facilities, flat-screen
TVs, and minibars (though minibars have sensors so guests can't use them to store their own items). There is
air-conditioning, but many guests have noted that they’re unable to regulate it from
the rooms. Complaints about faulty or broken safes and maintenance issues have
also been made. The cream-tiled bathrooms are standard in size (but large
for Paris) and appear more modern than the rooms with sleek shower/tub combos
with deep tubs and plenty of counter space. All bathrooms come outfitted with hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and Omnisens toiletries.
Features
Restaurant, bar, business corner, and meeting rooms
Hotel Concorde Montparnasse has a well-rounded list of features, especially when it comes to dining and business amenities. The O’40
Restaurant serves French fare straight from the kitchen or in an elegant buffet
for lunch and dinner. By contrast, Restaurant La Wenge has a more relaxed
atmosphere, as it’s combined with the La Wenge Bar, which has a happy hour and occasionally live music. Guests can also eat on the lovely outdoor
courtyard during the warmer months. A breakfast buffet is served in the La
Wenge Bar area, though it's not included in room rates. Beyond dining, the hotel is
well-equipped for business travelers, with free Wi-Fi and a
business corner with computers, a printer, and a telephone. Copies and
faxes cost a fee. The hotel’s meeting rooms are fully equipped with audiovisual
equipment. There’s an on-site parking garage for a fee.
