Bottom Line

The 190-room Radisson Hotel Portland Airport is a three-pearl business hotel that, as its name suggests, is near Portland International Airport. The colorful rooms come with big desks stocked with basic office supplies. Suites with whirlpool tubs are also available. On-site features include a well-equipped fitness center, and a restaurant with lovely lakeside dining in the summer months. While the hotel has attractive features for business travelers, such as free Wi-Fi, a business center with computer stations, and multiple meeting spaces, there's no pool, and the location is inconvenient for anyone without a car, although the hotel operates a shuttle service to the airport and a nearby light-rail stop. The Hyatt Portland Airport might be a better choice for travelers who want to be within walking distance of restaurants and shops; although its fitness center and dining options are less extensive than the Radisson's, The Hyatt does have an indoor pool and hot tub.

Radisson Hotel Portland Airport

Scene

Airport chain hotel with pleasant lobby, popular with business travelers and passengers in transit

The Radisson is a business chain hotel that sits on a lovely golf course with a lake, giving it a more rural feel than most other airport  hotels. The gray-walled lobby has a homey collection of reddish and charcoal-colored chairs. A few potted aloes and a centerpiece coffee table with a glass top and a driftwood base adds texture to the room, while a colorful modern art piece on one of the walls brightens the space up. There's also a board with flight information on one wall. Most guests are transit passengers or business travelers on layovers who need to be near the airport.

Location

Near the airport on a golf course that overlooks a small lake

The Radisson is located in a quieter part of the airport vicinity overlooking a small lake and a golf course. There's not much to see within walking distance, although the hotel operates a free shuttle to the airport and to the MAX light-rail station, each a six-minute ride away. From the MAX station, it's about a half-hour ride to downtown Portland, or a 20-minute drive from the hotel, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Pleasant rooms with 42-inch flat-screen TVs and big desks with office supplies, plus suites with whirlpools

The Radisson offers Business Class Rooms, One-bedroom Suites, and Whirlpool Suites, and ADA units can be arranged on request. The One-bedroom Suites have separate living areas with tables that seat up to six, while the Whirlpool Suites have tubs for two and views of the adjacent lake and golf course (as do some of the rooms).

Decor is consistent throughout units and includes light-wood furniture, cream walls with a pastel-olive accent wall in each room, charcoal-hued sofas, and plain white beds complemented by striped cushions in autumnal hues and mustard-colored bed runners. All have 42-inch flat-screen TVs with cable, large work desks with office supplies and ergonomic chairs, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos, double vanities with two small sinks and a huge mirror, and come with small wall-mounted hairdryers.

Features

Ample meeting space, well-equipped gym, and restaurant with lakeside seating in summer months

The Radisson offers three meeting rooms, the largest of which can seat 100 theater style. Audiovisual equipment is available on-site, and catering can be arranged on reequest. Other features include a fitness center with an array of weight and cardio machines, along with a pair of mini basketball hoops and a rack of free weights. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and there's a small business center with a couple of computers, a printer, and an easy chair. There's also a laundry room -- a boon for long-term guests -- with one washer and one dryer that are free for guests' use.

The hotel's restaurant, Lakeside Bar & Grill, is open from morning until late evening and receives great feedback from guests. It serves a standard a la carte breakfast with a good selection of hot items as well as a breakfast buffet with fruits, hot items, and a waffle iron. The lunchtime offerings are mostly salads and sandwiches, while pizzas, pastas, seafood, and meat entrees are added at dinnertime. While the food gets good reviews, the restaurant itself is sparse and institutional -- a step up from a diner but with less personality. For summertime visitors, there's a lovely outdoor section overlooking the on-site lake. Room service is available during restaurant hours.
