The Best Western Plus Hotel Meteor Plaza may be a standard, mid-range chain hotel now, but it began its life in 1307 as the White Lion, an inn just outside one of the city's original gates; now, it mostly attracts tourist couples looking for a charming and affordable place to stay in a convenient location. The hallways are a bit dated in style, with stenciled designs on the walls and patterned red carpeting, but the dining areas are more pleasant; the lobby is barely more than a check-in desk. The restaurant is located in the historic cellar, complete with arched stone ceilings and romantic lighting. Tapered candles and a red and dark-wood color scheme only add to the romance, and there’s a small wooden bar. The breakfast room is brighter and livelier, with wooden floors and brushed yellow and rose-colored walls. In warm weather, the hotel has a terrace where guests can enjoy breakfast outdoors. 

Best Western Hotel Meteor Plaza is located near the picturesque Powder Tower, on the edge of Prague’s Old Town. It’s only a 10-minute walk to Old Town Square, and around a 15-minute walk to the Charles Bridge. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. There’s a tram stop just a short walk away; Prague Castle can be reached in less than 15 minutes by tram. The airport is less than a 30-minute drive away.

Rooms are classic, emblematic of mid-range 1990s European chain hotels, with floor-length green curtains, wooden furnishings, and pale yellow walls. Green-striped bedding and framed pictures add homey touches, but the carpets and curtains could use refreshing. All rooms have coffee/tea facilities, stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. One higher-tier room even has a piano, which musicians may enjoy. Bathrooms are small and basic, but clean, and have towel warmers and small, walk-in showers. For a quiet night’s rest, opt for a room facing the courtyard.
