Best Value Hotels in Copacabana, Rio De Janeiro

The Windsor Martinique offers a convenient beach location just a short walk from the Posto 5 area at Copacabana Beach. This mid-range hotel gets high marks for its location, cleanliness of rooms, and helpful front desk staff. Standard and Superior rooms are comfortable (though Standard rooms are small) and include 21-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Free breakfast buffet and Wi-Fi keep overall costs low, while a tiny rooftop swimming pool, bar, full restaurant, and small fitness center are nice extras. 

Windsor Copa Hotel is a pleasant mid-range hotel in the Posto 2 section of north Copacabana. It's a one-block walk to the neighborhood's famous beach and a five-minute walk to the Cardeal Arcoverde Metro station. The hotel's free hot-and-cold breakfast buffet is quite good and has lots of options, and the 146 rooms are clean, quiet, and modern. They include free Wi-Fi, minibars, and flat-screen TVs. Although the hotel fewer facilities than its sister property, the Windsor Atlantica, room quality here is more modern than nearby Astoria Palace. The Windsor Copa is a good choice for travelers who want affordable rates in a prime location near the beach. 

The 103-room Hotel Mar Palace Copacabana is a mid-range property situated in the heart of Copacabana. Guests can walk to the beach in less than 10 minutes and to the closest metro station in about five minutes. The area is filled with restaurants, shops, and bars. Rooms aren't fancy, but they're clean and come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The restaurant serves all meals, including a free breakfast buffet, and there are bars in the lobby and on the rooftop. Other features include a small fitness center and five meeting rooms. Travelers looking for a similar hotel with slightly lower rates could check out the Golden Tulip Rio Leme, which has much better views from its rooftop. 

Augusto's Copacabana is a lower-middle-range hotel with a convenient and central location near the beach and Cantagalo metro station. 102 rooms are clean and comfortable, though maintenance issues have been noted. Orla Copacabana Hotel offers a prime location at the south end of Copacabana, just across from the beach on Avenida Atlantica. For a beachfront hotel with more facilities, travelers should consider the Arena Copacabana Hotel, which adds a sleek rooftop pool and modern fitness center.

The Bamboo Rio Hostel is a two-pearl option built on a quiet side street in Copacabana, three blocks from the party scene at Copacabana Beach and with several restaurants, bars, shops, and supermarkets in the neighborhood. The hostel offers three worn private rooms and gender segregated dormitories, catering mainly to young travelers and backpackers. Wi-Fi is free in all areas, and a simple breakfast -- included in the room rate --  is served in the Bamboo Restaurant and Bar. A communal kitchen facility and tiny plunge pool are decent perks for this price point. The dormitory beds are among the cheapest accommodation options you can find in the expensive Copacabana tourism scene.

The Copacabana Mar Hotel is a budget option two blocks from the party scene on Copacabana Beach. It's a good spot for those who care more about location and low rates than frills. Highlights include a free hot breakfast buffet, tiny rooftop pool with mountain and city views, and a lobby bar and restaurant renovated in 2013. Some rooms are on the small side and bathrooms definitely need maintenance work, but are clean overall. A fitness center and sauna sound like nice perks, but both are extremely out of date. Past guests have complained about everything from noise to weak (but free) Wi-Fi. 

The Apa hotel is centrally located just two blocks from Copacabana beach and even closer to the Cardeal Arcoverde metro station. This value hotel offers 52 basic, but clean rooms, some of which have recently undergone renovation (the rest should be renovated before the 2016 Rio Janeiro Olympics). Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and hot buffet breakfast is included in the rate, and room service is available, though there isn't a swimming pool. 

The budget Hotel Bandeirantes has a central Copacabana location just three blocks from the beach and two to the metro station. The decor throughout the hotel is dated, worn, and suffers from garish additions like plastic flowers and cheesy artwork. The 143 rooms are especially in need of a refresh with rusty bathroom fixtures and ancient air-conditioners. But they do have flat-screen TVs and minibars. A major renovation is planned for 2015, which will include updating decor and installing sound-proof windows, as street noise can be an issue. An on-site restaurant serves a free buffet breakfast, but the spotty Wi-Fi is an additional fee. The small rooftop pool has little room for swimming, but it does offer views of Christ the Redeemer. Travelers looking for more up-to-date accommodations in the area could try the Promenade Princess Copacabana.

The mid-range, Astoria Copacabana has an excellent central location on a quiet side street near the metro and two blocks from the beach. The 124 guest rooms are a bit cramped with dated decor and bathrooms, but they include modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, safes, and air-conditioning; but most don't have balconies. The on-site restaurant serves a hot buffet breakfast included in the room rate. A small pool and a petite fitness center add to the hotel, but the most delightful feature is the blue-tiled steam room. Travelers may want to compare rates and amenities with the nearby Windsor Excelsior Hotel, which has a more updated look.

Copacabana Sol Hotel is a three-pearl hotel that's set a few blocks from Copacabana's famous beach, so rates are lower than properties along the main strip. Even so, it's still only a 10-minute walk to the sand. This is a good value for travelers who want to stay right in the heart of Copacabana near convenient transport links. The restaurant serves meals all day, including a free buffet breakfast, and the gym has a range of equipment, plus a steam room. Style-wise, the 70 rooms are a bit of a let down and some have restricted views, but they're air-conditioned, include free Wi-Fi, and are relatively spacious. It may be worth comparing rates with nearby Atlantico Copacabana Hotel, which adds a pool and has more modern rooms.

The Atlantico Copacabana is currently a lower-middle-range hotel undergoing a major renovation to upgrade both the rooms and the public areas by 2016. The hotel will remain open while construction is underway, so be prepared for noise. Currently, the hotel is dated with old-fashioned decor and furniture, and has noticeable wear and tear. The Atlantico has a first floor restaurant that serves breakfast -- included in the room rate -- and a la carte lunch and dinner. The rooftop offers a swimming pool, tiny fitness center, and a steam room. Copacabana Beach is about three blocks from the hotel and there's a metro station across the street.
