La Digue Island Lodge

La Digue Island, Seychelles

The 61-room La Digue Island Lodge was one of the island’s first hotels, and it maintains a strong sense of island history and local Creole culture. Located on the lovely white-sand Anse Reunion Beach, the hotel offers top-notch spa services, a PADI dive center, and a swim-up pool bar, among other luxuries. Lodging options vary from genteel, plantation-style hotel rooms to thatched-roof chalets in the garden or on the beach. Amenities include air-conditioning, minibars, safes, free toiletries, and TVs with satellite channels, although reception can be spotty. Some of the rooms are located a long walk from reception and the restaurant, but there's a free shuttle between locations. The hotel also offers free minibus transportation to the nearby village. The La Digue Island Lodge's main restaurant, Veuve, serves Creole cuisine and local seafood, as well as a free morning breakfast buffet. Wi-Fi is free, but only available at the reception area.

Casa De Leela is a true guesthouse -- no luxuries or frills here -- with eight clean and spacious apartments and bungalows amid colorful tropical gardens. The one- and two-bedroom bungalows and one-bedroom apartments all come with full (and spacious) kitchens and large, covered, furnished verandahs for lazy afternoons. Note that air-conditioning is in bedrooms only and Wi-Fi comes at a fee; guests may need to be near the lobby to get a good signal. Daily housekeeping is provided as well.
