Bottom Line

CherryLoft is a no-frills budget hotel situated in a relatively quiet residential area in walking distance to Little India and the Farrer Park MRT Station, but a bit far from Singapore's main sights. The property's 120 rooms range from compact singles to more spacious doubles, triples, and quadruple rooms. Though they lack ambiance and show a bit of wear, guests tend to find them clean and comfortable for a budget property, with amenities like flat-screen TVs, spacious en-suite bathrooms, and electric kettles. The free breakfast buffet includes lots of Indian options, though guests recommend getting to breakfast early, as food disappears quickly. Other than the breakfast room and lobby lounge, there are no other property features. Travelers looking for a budget hotel closer to the MRT station might compare rates with the Fortuna Hotel.

Oyster Hotel Review

CherryLoft

Scene

Budget hotel with mismatched interiors and few extra features

CherryLoft is situated in a long, rectangular building with a red- and cream-colored striped facade. Guests enter the hotel into a roomy lobby area that stretches from the front to the back of the building with wood floors and high ceiling, though the ambiance here feels a bit like a hostel with a mismatched collection of gathering spaces: black faux-leather couches, two massage chairs, some faux-wicker tables and chairs, and a small carpeted kids' play area that abuts a foosball table. To the left and the right of the lounge sit the breakfast room and a small reception area, thus comprising the hotel's extra property features. This no-frills option attracts many Indian guests, including many families who can take advantage of the spacious, multi-bed rooms.

Location

In residential area near Little India, an eight-minute walk from the MRT

CherryLoft is situated on a somewhat sparse residential street in the Farrer Park neighborhood, a bit far from Singapore's big attractions, but in walking distance to restaurants and shops in Little India. There are a handful of coffeeshops and restaurants within a five-minute walk of the hotel, and Mustafa Market, a popular 24-hour shopping mall, is about an 11-minute walk, with plenty of Indian restaurants on the same block. Many sights outside of the neighborhood are pretty easily accessible via the Farrer Park MRT Station, about an eight-minute walk, or the bus stop across the street. Marina Bay sights will take about 25 minutes to a half hour to get to via public transit.

  • Eight-minute walk to Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple
  • 11-minute walk to City Square Mall
  • 25 minutes to Orchard Road shopping via public transit
  • 25 minutes to the Merlion via public transit
  • 25 minutes to the Esplanade via public transit
  • 25 minutes to Clarke Quay via public transit
  • 30 minutes to HarbourFront via public transit
  • One hour (or more) to Changi International Airport via public transit

Rooms

Straightforward but spacious rooms with flat-screen TVs and electric kettles

Guest rooms at CherryLoft range from compact singles (172 square feet) to more spacious double, triple, and quadruple rooms (up to 344 square feet). Their straightforward, no-frills style pairs beige-tiled floors with white walls and cherry-colored wood furnishings. Golden-hued runners on the beds and matching headboard and chair upholstery offer a homey touch, though overall the rooms lack ambiance. Wear-and-tear is evident throughout, though guests tend to find most rooms clean and comfortable for a budget property. Bathrooms tend to be basic but big with white walls, beige-tiled floors, square sinks, and simple, glass-partitioned showers.

Rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, desks, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, free bottled water, and toiletries that include toothbrushes, toothpaste, and 2-in-1 shampoo-and-body-wash wall dispensers. Rooms do not have mini-fridges, but most have small sinks. Wi-Fi costs a modest but extra "activation" fee per device. Views are unspectacular, either of the main road, a parking lot, or building walls.

Features

Free breakfast buffet, but few extra property features

Extra property features here are quite pared down, limited to the lobby areas and a breakfast room. The lobby features sitting areas, a foosball table, massage chairs, and snacks and vending machine drinks for sale. There is also some outdoor seating, though it faces a busy main road. The breakfast buffet, which features mainly vegetarian Indian fare, is included in the room rate and served in a plain and cafeteria-like room. Guests complain that the breakfast room guests quite busy and recommend getting there early, as food disappears fast and breakfast's end-time is strictly upheld. Wi-Fi costs a modest but extra, per-device activation fee. Luggage storage is offered free of charge.
