Parc Sovereign Hotel – Tyrwhitt

The Parc Sovereign is certainly striking. Its lobby has a herringbone parquet floor with alternating strokes of dark and blond wood, paneled walls, and sleek, distressed brown leather ottomans. Up on a terrace, there's a garden with curving gray sofas, rattan pod chairs, and trees in attractive planters. Another terrace is on the roof, which has a long and narrow lap pool, and a separate, shallower pool where kids splash around. The hotel tends to attract tourists looking to stay somewhere affordable and relatively peaceful, with decent access to the city center.

The Parc Sovereign Hotel – Tyrwhitt is located at the northern end of Singapore’s Little India neighborhood. It's a quieter part of town and top attractions aren't within walking distance, but sights are easily accessible via public transit, or short car rides. The closest MRT station is an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Chinatown, Clarke Quay, and the Orchid shopping district are all about a 12-minute drive, or 20 minutes by public transportation. Reaching Marina Gardens takes roughly 15 minutes by car, or 30 minutes using public transit. The hotel is well-located for business travelers, with the Central Business District and the Tanjong Pagar neighborhood a 15-minute drive away, or 20 minutes on the MRT. Expect 20 to 25 minutes by car, or an hour by public transit to get to Changi Airport. 

The hotel’s 270 guest rooms have eye-catching contemporary decor, with moody slate-gray and lavender throughout. But they tend to be on the small side, and some past guests have complained about noise. Standard units have blond-wood floors and shaggy gray rugs under beds, and sleek, modern lighting accenting walls behind them. There are also pretty terraces with wire pod chairs hanging from giant hooks. All units are equipped with black glass and chrome desks with leather office chairs, and gray velvet armchairs, but there are no wardrobes, and there's minimal space to hang or stow clothing. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, microwaves, electric kettles with free tea and instant coffee, free bottled water, slippers, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Attractive bathrooms with black marble are behind frosted glass walls, and they contain walk-in rainfall showers with removable showerheads, hairdryers, and toiletries. Superior units are larger, with room for two beds, while loft rooms are duplexes with staircases leading up to seating areas. Resort rooms, meanwhile, have large, landscaped terraces, with Astroturf, shrubs, and rhododendron bushes, plus rattan armchairs and tea tables.

The Parc Sovereign Tyrwhitt is somewhat light on amenities. The hotel has a terrace garden area, and a rooftop pool terrace with sun loungers, a long and narrow lap pool, and a separate kiddie pool. There's also a small gym, but it's poorly equipped, with a treadmill, bicycle, and a weight-training machine. The hotel offers guests a free buffet breakfast, although guests complain that the choice is limited and service can be chaotic. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and guests are given a loaner mobile phone, which has unlimited data and minutes, and includes access to discounted tickets for events and museums. There's also free on-site parking.
