This is a partially renovated hotel with a combination of old-fashioned and contemporary decor. There's nothing too spectacular here in terms of interiors -- the lobby, hallways, and restaurants are mostly generic and plain. The hotel grounds and rooftop have much more pizzazz. The rooftop is one of the highlights of the hotel, with a swimming pool, solarium, hot tub, and restaurant, along with the most amazing panoramic views of the northern coast of Tenerife. The solarium on the first floor provides an additional space to relax with grass lawns, palm trees, and beautiful gardens that are set with sun loungers, day beds, parasols, and a hot tub.

Valle Mar puts special emphasis on health and respect for nature. Dishes served in the on-site restaurants are prepared with organic, seasonal produce from their own farm (La Vizcaina), which focuses on sustainable and organic farm practices. There are also two energy-free rooms for guests with electromagnetic hypersensitivity. This is also a pet-friendly property; pets are allowed for an additional daily fee. Due to its central location in the popular Puerto de la Cruz, this hotel is mostly frequented by tourist couples.

Valle Mar is situated on the main promenade in Puerto de la Cruz, one of the largest and most traditional tourist areas of Tenerife. There's loads of action going on around the hotel, including several restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, and other hotels within close walking distance. It's a two-minute walk to the beach, and the famous Lago Martianez pools are just a four-minute walk from the hotel. Sitio Litre Garden, offering walkways, fountains, and tropical plants, is also a four-minute walk from the hotel. The central plaza, Plaza del Charco, where many big concerts and events are held, is a nine-minute walk. The hotel is also close to popular attractions such as Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (nine-minute walk) and the Museo Arqueologico (12-minute walk). The Plaza Reyes Catolicos bus stop is a one-minute walk from the hotel. Tenerife South Airport is an hours' drive, while Tenerife North Airport is 26 minutes' drive (50 minutes by public transportation) from the hotel.

The guest rooms throughout Valle Mar include a combination of modern and traditional decor. Rooms come in Standard Room, Sea View Room, Superior Room, Deluxe Room, and Suite -- all with private balconies with either garden or sea views. The Deluxe Rooms and Suites have modern designs with upgraded decor and furniture. Updates include lighter carpeting, white linen and headboards, black furniture, light curtains, and large brightly colored artwork. The other rooms include slightly dated furniture with red carpets, wooden headboards and furniture, and old-fashioned light fittings and artwork. Features found in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, desks, safes, and free Wi-Fi. There are no tea- and- coffee-making facilities available in the lower-category rooms. The Suites include a lounge and dining area, along with a hot tub. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Hairdryers and house-brand toiletries are provided. Magnifying mirrors are added in the higher-category rooms. Bathrobes and slippers are provided in the Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, and Suites. There are also two energy-free rooms for guests with electromagnetic hypersensitivity. 

One of the best features of Valle Mar is its central location, though there are also a fair amount of on-site facilities to keep guests entertained. The restaurant offers both buffet-style dining and a la carte dishes. All food features locally produced, organic, seasonal products from the restaurant's own farm. There's a free buffet breakfast and the restaurant hosts themed dinners. The rooftop swimming pool has the most spectacular ocean views and includes a surrounding solarium, outdoor hot tub, and restaurant/bar. There's another solarium with sun loungers and day beds on the first floor, and an additional hot tub in the garden on the ground floor. The hotel includes event facilities that are suitable for meetings, conferences, conventions, banquets, parties, and weddings -- with capacity for up to 300 guests. The hotel is a pet-friendly property and for an additional fee guests are provided with beds and bowls for their pets. Tourist services are available, including information, airport transfer, excursion booking, and car and bicycle rental for additional fees. Additional features include 24-hour reception, luggage storage, laundry service, and recreational facilities like a pool table and table tennis. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
