Bottom Line

There are 162 guest rooms at this busy three-and-a-half-pearl property on beautiful Chaweng Beach, right in the middle of the bustling little town. The shops and raucous nightlife that the area is
famous for are just a minute’s walk away, but the property itself is a fairly
quiet retreat (providing travelers don't get a room near the road). The hotel has two beachfront restaurants, pretty gardens, a swimming pool, a gift shop selling local crafts, and free Wi-Fi throughout the
resort. Guest rooms are spacious and quite lovely, with charming traditional Thai decor plus flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. Villas
with private pools are also available. It's worth comparing with the nearby
Samui Resotel and Spa, a quieter options with a swim-up bar and modern fitness
center, though rates are higher.

Scene

Traditional and relaxed family-run hotel, one of the larger properties on the beach

The Chaweng Garden Beach Resort is owned by a local Koh Samui family,
and has the relaxed feel of a family-run property -- that'a major plus for a wild town like Chaweng, though some carryover of the lively vibe is inevitable. From a style perspective, the hotel is traditionally Thai, with rooms and facilities being spread across
multiple buildings which are in the wooden bungalow style. The lobby is an open-sided building with a high wooden vaulted ceiling, and bursts of bright color
in the decor. It has wooden benches and chairs covered in bright cerise and
lime green cushions, there are colorful pots with vibrant green plants, and a
cool, gray tiled floor. Guests are offered a cool drink and a damp cloth upon
arrival at the check-in desk. The resort itself has sand paths that wind
through pretty gardens to the attractive pool area, which is sheltered from the
beach by a line of palm trees. The property and its location appeals to a wide
range of people, and therefore attracts a range of guests from groups of
friends, to couples of all ages, and families with children.

Location

Right in the heart of lively Chaweng, directly on the beach

The hotel is set right on the clean, white sand and clear blue waters of
Chaweng Beach. It's surrounded by many other hotels and resorts, as well as
restaurants and bars. Chaweng’s lively nightlife and shops that line the main are just a minute’s walk from the property. Other attractions in the area
include the large Central Festival Samui shopping mall and cinema, which is a
five-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the hotel, the Phetch Buncha Thai
Boxing Stadium which is a five-minute drive, and the Wat Plai Laem Buddhist
temple which is a 15-minute drive. Alternatively the kick-boxing stadium can be reached in 15 minutes on foot, as can Chaweng Walking Street, which is home to a night market and lots of open-air drinking. Koh Samui Airport is around a 15-minute
journey by car from the hotel.

Rooms

Air-conditioned rooms with minibars, decorated in traditional Thai style

The 334 guest rooms at the Chaweng Garden Beach Resort are available in
a range of categories from Basic Double rooms through to Deluxe Bungalows and
Villas with a private pool. They are all decorated in traditional Thai style, using
beautiful, brightly colored local fabrics in the soft furnishings plus dark wood
floors, walls, and furniture. Every unit also has balconies and windows looking out onto
stunning tropical views. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, a minibar,
a safe, flat screen TV with satellite channels, tea and coffee making
facilities, free mineral water, and free Wi-Fi. The beachfront bungalows have the addition of a whirlpool
tub, while Garden Villas have a private pool and separate living room. The
bathrooms are equally charming, with handmade ceramic vessel sinks
covered in floral patterns and the use of local tiles. Most bathrooms are
spacious and have a separate shower and bath tub. Some previous guests have
found that noise from the neighboring bar can be a nuisance in the evenings, as can noise from the road in street-facing rooms.

Features

Beachfront dining, sea views from the outdoor pool, and a good gift shop

Without a doubt the ability to walk right onto busy Chaweng Beach from the hotel is a major highlight for many guests. That aside, there are a decent number of features for guests here.A good buffet breakfast is available daily at the hotel, although it’s
not included in the room rate. This is served at the property’s eatery, Sue’s
Ocean Restaurant. It’s right on the beach, is also open for lunch and dinner, and
specializes in international cuisine. There’s also a bar within the restaurant. In addition, the hotel has the Sukulaya Restaurant, which is right on the beach as well. It
is shaded by palm trees and offers a range of dishes, but is most popular for
its fresh seafood grills. Other on-site facilities include a shop selling
beautiful handmade gifts such as soaps and handbags, and an outdoor pool
surrounded by loungers, parasols, and garden and sea views. Guests can use
Wi-Fi free throughout the property and parking is free too.
