Bottom Line

Hotel Yanagibashi is a 28-room budget hotel within a few minutes' walk of Asakusabashi station. Rooms are tiny but have en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and electric kettles. The hotel is a bit rundown and dated overall, and has clearly seen better days. But its low rates and quiet atmosphere make it popular with budget travelers, and it's often book far in advance. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and free tea and coffee in the lounge add to the property's value. There's a convenient coin-operated laundry on-site, but there's no breakfast service. Travelers might want to also check out the Andon Ryokan, another budget option in the same neighborhood, which offers breakfast and bike rentals.

Scene

Quiet budget hotel near the train and subway station

Hotel Yanagibashi is located on a quiet Tokyo street in a tiny, narrow six-story building, squeezed in-between other buildings -- there's a small eatery on its ground floor. The cramped public spaces are cluttered: The narrow entryway is crowded with a brochure stand, posters, a vending machine, and a photocopier, and the reception counter is covered with more tourist brochures, pamphlets, and notices. The hotel could use a refresh, and it doesn't appear that much effort has been put into making the property more welcoming. But the public spaces and rooms are clean, and the hotel is quiet.

Rooms

Small rooms with tiny bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and Wi-Fi

The 28 rooms at Hotel Yanagibashi consist of Singles, Doubles, and Twins. They're clean but small and box-like, with low ceilings, minimal furniture, and little space to store luggage. Windows are small, and the floors have dark-red carpeting. Walls are cream-colored, with little decoration, although matching bedspreads coordinate with the curtains. Furniture shows wear and tear, including scratches, and walls are scuffed. Corner shelves hold flat-screen TVs, and small units behind the beds have reading lamps and telephones. Rooms are air-conditioned and they come with free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, electric kettles, hairdryers, slippers, robes, and towels. The cramped bathrooms have small Japanese-style bathtubs that share a tap with the sinks, which are wedged in between the tubs and toilets. Small mirrors and basic toiletries are provided.

Features

Lounge area, free tea and coffee, computer room

This is a no-frills budget hotel, but it has some handy perks. There's a lounge, albeit a cramped one, with tables and chairs, with tea and coffee available all day. Two desktop computers are available to guests, along with a fax and photocopy machine in the lobby. There's also a coin-operated washer/dryer, and a vending machine that sells drinks. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
