Bottom Line

Hotel Tre Archi is a value hotel with 24 air-conditioned rooms and views of Canale di Cannaregio. Rooms have flat-screen TVs and minibars and are decorated in a typical Venetian style, with ornate headboards and Murano glass chandeliers. There's an enclosed garden and a bar that's open 24 hours a day. The hotel is a bit of a trek to St Mark's Square, but it's close to the railway station. Breakfast is free, but the choices are limited to a simple spread. Hotel Santa Lucia is less than a 10-minute walk away and has comparable rates, as well as generally better breakfasts.

Scene

A standard, no-frills Venetian hotel with a homey lobby

The historic canal-facing hotel, once a Venetian residence, is geared toward budget-minded solo travelers and couples who plan on spending the majority of their vacation outside of the hotel, exploring the narrow city streets and historic sites. The exterior of the building is unassuming and blends into the romantic city, with dark-pink stucco walls and wooden shutters on the windows. The lobby is rustic, with stone flooring, exposed wooden beams, brick walls, and an original period ceiling embellished with precious ornaments and Murano polychrome chandeliers. A staircase leads up to a homey lounge featuring casual chairs and tables. However, there’s no elevator which can be a bit of a bugbear, especially when guests come armed with handfuls of luggage.

Location

A long walk to Rialto Bridge but close to the railway station

The Hotel Tre Archi is located in the Canneregio district, in an area surrounded by shops, restaurants, and art galleries and not far from a supermarket and a McDonald's. The neighborhood is quieter than some of Venice's more lively tourist districts, but there are still plenty of historic squares and narrow alleyways in which to get lost. It's at the edge of Venice's Jewish neighborhood, and there are a good variety of Kosher restaurants in the surrounding area, many of which serve excellent traditional Jewish fare. Rialto Bridge is a 25-minute walk away and St Mark's Square takes 30 minutes on foot or by vaporetto, but the railway station is under a 10-minute walk away.

Rooms

Cozy rooms with ornate headboards and antique-inspired furniture

The Hotel Tre Archi offers Single, Double, and Triple Rooms with en-suite or shared bathrooms. Rooms are basic, with simple but colorful decor and pretty damask wallpaper, as well as air-conditioning and TVs. Exposed wood ceiling beams, Murano light fixtures, classic wooden furniture, and antique-inspired decorative pieces add a homey touch to otherwise basic rooms. Most rooms have views of the canal or the courtyard garden and some have balconies. Bathrooms have modern fixtures, heated towel racks and bidets, and cute tiles with floral motifs painted. None of the rooms pick up the free Wi-Fi signal from the lobby.

Features

A pretty breakfast room and a small 24-hour bar

There are books and umbrellas available for guests to borrow and the front desk can provide basic concierge services, such as making restaurant reservations. There's a pretty courtyard garden which comes into its own during the summer months, especially with a few drinks purchased at the small bar, open 24 hours a day. The breakfast room is housed in a conservatory which is a modern add-on to the old building, and is flooded with light during the warmer months. Breakfast is free but basic and Wi-Fi, while free is only available in the lobby.
