Bottom Line

In a 19th-century city palace, the Austria Trend Hotel
Rathauspark Wien is a mid-range hotel with 117 rooms. It is centrally located five minutes away from a tube station and near shopping and historic attractions. All of the simple rooms have free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, but they lack air-conditioning and some are a bit tight on space. This value pick could do with updating in some parts of the hotel, but generally it is clean and the staff is welcoming. There is a small business corner, lobby bar, and concierge services available, but there are fees for breakfast and parking.

Scene

A modern hotel with red accents

The Austria Trend Hotel has a fire-engine red
facade on the street level that makes it stand out from adjoining creamy
white buildings. The bold hue continues in the modern lobby, which has velvet
red chairs, cushions, wall art, and curtains, all in shades of red. Sleek LED
lights line the ceiling and there are plenty of brochures on local attractions
as well as a selection of newspapers on hand for guests. A water dispenser with lemon- and mint-flavored water provides refreshment. The atmosphere is laid-back and the staff is helpful.

Location

Located in Vienna city center, near shopping and historic attractions

This hotel is in an excellent
location -- right behind the main university building, near the Schottentor
U-Bahn, and various bus and taxi connections. It is only a 10-minute walk to
Stefansdom in the inner city, yet its quiet side street location means that
guests can get an undisturbed night’s sleep. The historic University building
is just a few feet away, and the Hofburg is a 15-minute walk from the lobby
door. The hotel is a five-minute walk to Rathausplatz,
which has a lot of activities over the year and a famous Christmas market.

Rooms

Cozy rooms have simple decor and free Wi-Fi.

The
rooms here are on the small side but do have period features like stuccoed ceilings and bay
windows. They have comfortable mattresses, plus seating areas, writing desks, minibars, and flat-screen TVs. The lack of bright lights and the
constant whirring of the bathroom fans can be annoying for some, and the
showers are quite small. The
hotel has a pillow menu with options ranging from neck
support pillows to Swiss stone pine pillows or neck rolls.

Features

Breakfasts offering range of options (including for those suffering from allergies) and jogging maps available

Austria Trend Hotels pay particular attention to organic, lactose-free, and vegetarian ingredients. Gluten-free products are specifically labeled
and staff serves lactose-free milk and yogurt upon guests' request, as well as gluten-free pastries and bread. There's no gym,
spa, or conference room here -- this is a hotel for a quiet night’s sleep after a long day’s sightseeing in Vienna. It does, however, provide guests with detailed maps of jogging paths with various degrees of difficulty if you want to run off all those breakfast pastries. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
