Bottom Line

Tucked inside a shopping mall on the Northwest edge of D.C.,
this all-suite hotel is a convenient choice for visitors who want to relax,
shop, or do business in the area -- but its out-of-the-way location isn’t ideal
for sightseeing. Highlights include spacious suites, a modern fitness center,
indoor pool, and a restaurant and bar overlooking the mall. Large,
family-friendly rooms and freebies like hot buffet breakfasts make this Embassy
Suites a solid value for D.C., but beware of daily parking and Wi-Fi fees.

Scene

A modern all-suite hotel in a convenient shopping mall setting

Located within the larger Chevy Chase Pavilion shopping mall,
this 198-room Embassy Suites can be difficult to spot. From the street, the hotel’s
low-key entrance is sandwiched next to signs for a CVS pharmacy, Civil Cigar
Lounge, and the main entrance to the mall. Once inside the main doors, guests can ride a one-way escalator up to
the lobby. The hotel opened in 1992 and received a full makeover in

  1. The biggest changes took place in the lobby, which increased in size and now
features modern, minimalist decor with leopard-print carpets, dark wooden
floors, and bright pops of orange. Next to the lobby is a similarly styled bar,
Willies, which has sleek barstools and futuristic lounge chairs in gray and
orange. Free buffet breakfast is served in an adjoining restaurant, Atrio Café,
and both venues offer a nice view of the mall (if there is such a thing). The mall and surrounding neighborhood is full of generic office
buildings, retail stores, and chain restaurants -- all very convenient, but not
unique to D.C. Guests in search of some local flavor should hop on the Red Line
(accessible through the mall) and travel 15 minutes south to Dupont Circle. However,
if you need to be in the area for business, this Embassy Suites is a top
    choice.

Location

Close to the subway, shopping, dining, and suburban Maryland

Located on the Washington side of the D.C.-Maryland border,
Embassy Suites is surrounded by shops and restaurants.  It’s technically situated within the Chevy
Chase Pavilion shopping mall, which means guests can go shopping at H&M,
get dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, and catch a subway train (the Friendship
Heights station is right downstairs) without ever going outdoors. This hotel isn’t
a great spot for tourists, however, as the White house and National Mall are
over five miles away.-

Rooms

One-bedroom suites with sofa beds, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers

Like the name implies, all the rooms at this Embassy Suites
are suites. Every unit includes a separate bedroom and living room, two
flat-screen TVs, and a wet bar with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig
coffeemaker. Bedrooms come with one king or two double beds, and living rooms
have queen-size sofa beds. All the suites are essentially the same, except for
units on the seventh and eighth floors, which have king beds,
showers (instead of shower/tub combos), and iPhone-compatible Bluetooth stereos. Real hardwood floors, modern furnishings, and
creative D.C.-inspired artwork make this Embassy Suites a bit more stylish than
the competition.

Features

Indoor pool, modern fitness center, room service, and free hot breakfast buffet

This Embassy Suites features a modern fitness center, locker
rooms, and a decent (though somewhat cloudy) indoor pool with a lap lane and
hot tub. Freebies include daily receptions (with cocktails, beer, wine, soda,
and snacks) and a hot breakfast buffet (with bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes,
and cooked-to-order omelets). The hotel restaurant, Atrio Café, is open for
breakfast and dinner. A bar is also open in the evenings. Other perks include a
24-hour business center, guest laundry room, and room service. Prepare to pay
daily fees for Wi-Fi and parking.
