Comfort Inn Williamsburg Gateway

This brick and stone hotel is has a low-key atmosphere, geared mainly toward tourists but it attracts its share of business travelers as well. The spacious, two-story lobby is bright and airy, with a striking stone design resembling a waterfall accenting a wall near the front desk. Clusters of comfy leather and upholstered seating provide inviting places to sit, and stainless steel artwork in sunburst patterns reinforce the modern and appealing motif. The lobby continues into the breakfast room, which has plenty of seating but gets quite congested at times, particularly when the tour groups who often stay here arrive en masse to dine. 

The Comfort Inn is located on busy Bypass Road/Route 60, surrounded by other hotels and restaurants. It’s a short drive to most area attractions, and several restaurants are within walking distance, including a Denny’s next to the hotel. A shuttle that takes tourists to Colonial Williamsburg for a small fee stops at the hotel.

These modern rooms feature eye-pleasing contemporary decor, with lovely lavender accents in the artwork, bed throws, upholstered furniture, floral-print drapes, and gray-striped carpet. White walls and duvets help brighten the space that’s somewhat dark, but appealing nonetheless. Glass-top steel desks are a tasteful touch, as are the large armoires. Amenities are a big plus. They include 32-inch flat-screen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. 

Units are comfortable, with even the Double Queens having enough space for oversize armchairs. Suites are available, including a Two-bedroom, Two-bathroom Suite with sleeper sofas. The Penthouse Suite has a full kitchen and separate living room. 

Bathrooms are a bit small, but stylish, with attractive granite vanities and circular mirrors above. All are contain shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. One of the bathrooms in the Two-Bedroom suites have showers and no tubs. The rooms are generally quiet, but views are little more than of the pool or parking lot.

This modern Comfort Inn offers several attractive amenities, with the free hot breakfast buffet as a highlight, which includes eggs, waffles, and breakfast meats. The hotel lacks a full-service restaurant on-site. Parking, weekday newspapers, and Wi-Fi also are free, and vending machines are on-site. The outdoor seasonal pool is a bit small, and has a patio with loungers and covered tables. There's also a small 24-hour fitness center that has a stack of free weights, but only three pieces of Precor cardio equipment -- two treadmills and a stationary bicycle. The guest laundry room has two washer/dryers, and valet dry cleaning and laundry are available for a fee.
