Cons
  • Restaurant and rooftop bar reek of smoke

  • Noisy

Bottom Line

A  35-room designer hotel in the middle of the historic center, A
for Athens, located across from the Acropolis and next to the Monastiraki metro station, is a value choice for travelers who want to be in the midst of everything -- it's a five-minute walk to the nightlife of Psirri, Monastiraki, and Plaka. But the convenience comes with a great deal of noise from the busy
street outside, and the roadside musicians in Monastiraki Square below. While the hotel's spectacular rooftop
bar is a popular nightlife spot for non-hotel guests, it also also adds noise.

Scene

The rooftop bar is a local hot spot, with stunning views.

The colorful murals of shapes and swirls accenting A for Athens’
white exterior give the first hint of its design, not to mention
its playful personality and appeal. Built by a team of locally famous designers, A for Athens has a rooftop bar with an open deck that offers a sweeping panorama of the city, including Mount Lycabettus in the distance. Full of high and low tables and
frequented by 20-somethings from lunch till late into the night, the rooftop bar is
clearly the pulse of the hotel.  The restaurant and rooftop bar are the only communal
gathering places in the hotel, as the lobby, consisting of a reception
desk and a small computer area, doesn't afford much room for socializing.

Location

In the heart of Athens above Monastiraki Square, with the Acropolis and Agora within a short walk

Surrounded by shops and next to Monastiraki metro station, A for Athens is on a busy
shopping street at the top of Monastiraki Square and is within a five-minute walk of Plaka, Psirri, and Agora, and within a 10-minute walk of the Acropolis,
Syntagma Square, and Gazi. Piraeus port is reachable on the green line from Monastiraki metro. The
airport is about 35 minutes away by car or taxi, or a 42-minute metro ride on the blue line from Monastiraki metro station.

Rooms

Elegant, airy and minimalistic

There are 35 airy and attractive rooms, all modern and spacious with clean wooden floors, headboards, and
stylish hanging lamps. Some rooms have large verandas that offer excellent views
of the city, but they all come with small,
mounted flat-screen TVs, tables with two chairs, large wooden wardrobes, built-in
countertops, and mini-fridges. Some have sinks and hot plates but not many cooking accessories. The
bathrooms have large, glass-enclosed stand-up showers, hairdryers, and
high-end toiletries. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, and a small bottle of a local liquor is there on arrival.

Features

Free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, and computer station

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, although the signal is sometimes spotty. There's a free breakfast buffet of fresh pastries, fruit, and Greek yogurt, which is served in the top floor restaurant or rooftop bar, overlooking the city. Some rooms have small hot plates for heating up quick
meals, and there are computers and printers in the lobby for guests' use. The concierge is available at all times and can help with
restaurant and taxi reservations.
