Location, and not design sense, is the main selling point at this centrally situated 10-story hotel. Astor Hotel Athens has a lobby done up in a dated style of heavily-veined marble floors, gold wall panels, and brass-trimmed glass, with some old-fashioned gray couches and chairs for lounging. Rooms have an equally outmoded look, and wear and tear is evident throughout the property. On the plus side, guests are more likely to be hanging out on the rooftop terrace when at the hotel, where breathtaking vistas of the Acropolis and Athens are on full display. Indoor and outdoor seating is available here. Most guests are leisure tourists, and the availability of quad rooms means that families and groups of friends have accommodation options.

Being only a three-minute walk from Syntagma Square, the Astor Hotel Athens is blessed with an ideal location for sightseers -- Plaka, the Benaki Museum, Ancient Agora, the National Garden, and the Acropolis Museum can all be reached in 12 minutes or less on foot. Better yet, shops and eateries abound in the area (because of the proximity to the Greek Parliament, sometimes protesters do too).
