Bottom Line

Sun Island Hotel Kuta is a contemporary upper-middle-range hotel located in the heart of downtown Kuta, a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach, Discovery Mall, and Waterbom Bali. The 129 rooms are clean and feature balconies, free Wi-Fi, and elegant interiors. The most popular units are the Deluxe Pool Access Rooms, as these open up directly out onto the pool. Family Suites with living rooms and interconnecting doors are also available. Facilities including a huge lagoon-like swimming pool, a restaurant, a street-side bar, meeting rooms, a small spa, and on-site parking. Those looking for a resort-style property with more extensive facilities and grounds may want to check out Kuta Paradiso Hotel, though rooms here are a bit more dated.

Sun Island Hotel Kuta

Scene

An urban hotel set in busy downtown Kuta with contemporary, ultra modern interiors

Sun Island Hotel Kuta is a modern hotel with an urban feel. Interiors are clean and contemporary, but lack the Balinese aesthetic for which the island's hotels are famous. Aesthetically, the interiors do have some elegant modern design elements like high-end marble slab floors, high wood ceilings, and rustic industrial stylings. The lobby is housed in a large open-air space with comfy couches and it has a long reception counter with multiple receptionists. Common areas are open-air and overlook the hotel's huge lagoon-like swimming pool that's centered in the property. The pool space includes a shallow kids' section, a poolside bar, and a large wooden deck with lounge chairs, but the setting doesn't have any tropical greenery. Pavos Restaurant has two distinct spaces -- a large dining hall (mostly used during breakfast) with dining tables and comfy upholstered chairs, plus a bar and lounge section. The bar and lounge space has the most ambience thanks to frequent live music, sports nights, and a buzzing street-side location that make it a popular venue for both in-house and outside guests.
