Bottom Line

This upscale adults-only boutique is a good pick for a quiet beach getaway. Located just north of sandy Levante Beach, the hotel offers easy walking access to both the Old and the New Town areas. Its 95 rooms are contemporary and bright, with cheerful decor, up-to-date amenities and furnished balconies -- but light sleepers may want to request a unit overlooking the pool, as street-facing rooms may get some noise. The hotel has a pleasant pool set with a whirlpool, loungers, and umbrellas. A stylish buffet restaurant provides meals and all-inclusive packages. Sister property RH Princesa offers a larger spa and more activities, but is popular with families and therefore a little less relaxing.

Scene

A quiet adults-only boutique with a contemporary lobby

Housed in a nine-story building, the 95-room RH Royal is a small hotel by Benidorm standards. The white facade and frosted glass balconies make it a little more stylish than neighboring structures, most of which were built in the '50s, '60s and '70s. The lobby is spacious and contemporary with brown floor tiling, a dark brown seating area with several armchairs and glass coffee tables, and chocolate brown wallpaper with beige patterns. While the space is overall a tad generic, the bright yellow front desk adds color, and the winding staircase with ornate white railings and red steps brings a stylish flourish. The lobby bar doubles as a poolside snack bar, and the main restaurant has a modern design and stylish decor in white and dove gray that stands out against the brown floors. As a small adults-only hotel, the vibe here is laid-back and relaxing, with a quiet pool deck, limited entertainment, and live piano performances instead of loud shows and cover bands many nights.

Location

A few blocks from two sandy beaches in central Benidorm

The hotel is located on a lively street a block from City Hall and a park. There are a few other hotels on the same street, as well as casual eateries and bars with sidewalk seating. Guests can find a supermarket and several other small shops within a couple of blocks, and there are plenty of other dining and shopping options closer to the seafront. The beach is a 10-minute walk away, and there's another long stretch of sand also within walking distance. The town’s main bus station is a five- to 10-minute drive away, and Alicante International Airport can be reached by car in about 45 minutes.

Rooms

Cheerful, contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, balconies, and free Wi-Fi

There are three room types here: Single, Standard, and Superior -- the only difference among them are the number of guests they can sleep and the bed size. Standard Rooms have two twin beds, while Superior units have either three twins or one king bed and a twin. The hotel’s 95 rooms are decorated with purple-brown carpets that muffle the noise, white walls that add light, and contemporary dark brown furniture. Gray comforters, orange armchairs, red lamp shades, and large paintings with three colorful flowers in fuchsia, mustard, and red are contemporary and stylish touches. Most bathrooms have been renovated and feature mosaic tiling in different gray hues, almond-shaped sinks, and shower/tub combos. Others, however, have beige tiling and basic pedestal sinks. All rooms feature furnished balconies, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, wall-mounted soap dispensers to reduce waste, and electric kettles. Safes are available for a fee. Note that rooms facing the street may pick up occasional noise.

Features

A pool, a fitness center with a sauna, a buffet restaurant, and bike storage space

The RH Royal's pool isn't huge, but it's big enough for a hotel this size. With loungers, umbrellas, tables, and a whirlpool, the deck is a relaxing spot for a quiet morning in the sun. The lobby bar doubles as the poolside bar and offers cocktails, hot drinks, and snacks. For larger meals, the restaurant serves a varied international buffet in a stylish white and gray space with floor-to-ceiling windows. There are packages for breakfast, half-board, and all-inclusive meals. The hotel also offers a bright fitness center with an array of cardio and strength-training machines, as well as a small wellness area complete with a sauna and seasonal whirlpools. Those cycling around town can store and repair their bikes on-site, and guests traveling by car have access to a covered parking lot for a daily fee. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
