Bottom Line

Hotel Bla Bla is a modern but no-frills budget hotel housed in an historic Flemish building on a pleasant cobbled street in central Bruges. The location means all the main tourist attractions are within walking distance, as is the main train station. While rooms are small, they're clean and comfortable, and many have views of the surrounding historic streets; though noisy floorboards can be an issue and the mobility-challenged would struggle with the stairs. While it's cheap and breakfast is included (unusual for Bruges), it's not an amazing value -- especially compared to the similarly priced Hotel de Goezeput nearby -- but the hotel is a solid budget option, nonetheless.

Hotel Bla Bla

Scene

Quaint, typically Flemish building with an unpretentious and modern ambience inside

Formerly the Hotel Imperial, this property was taken over, totally renovated -- even down to electrics and plumbing -- and relaunched as Hotel Bla Bla in 2013. Within the traditional building with its typical Flemish stepped roof and whitewashed facade, the interiors seamlessly blend the original carved wood fittings and stained glass windows with fresh contemporary decor and colorful art pieces. The vibe is unpretentious and unfussy, with a refreshingly modern yet homey feel, while the use of classic designer furnishings adds a degree of cool. As it's a small, budget-style property, the reception desk is not always manned -- advance notice should be given before arrival. The hotel does not have an elevator, there are no ground floor rooms, and the stairs are fairly steep, so this hotel is not an option for the mobility-impaired.

Location

Set on a wide cobbled street within easy walking distance of Bruges' main sights

Hotel Bla Bla is situated on a wide cobbled side street just off Zuidzandstraat, one of the main shopping streets in the center of Bruges. All of the city's main tourist attractions are well within walking distance, including the Grote Markt (the main square) and the old Vismarkt (fish market), both of which are within 10 minutes on foot. The main train station is just about walkable -- a brisk 15-minute stroll -- or, alternatively, the bus takes about seven minutes. The hotel doesn't have parking, but there is a paid parking garage just down the block.

Rooms

Small and basic rooms are clean and comfortable -- though can be creaky

The hotel has just seven rooms, all of which are decorated with crisp white walls, simple contemporary furnishings, and natural hardwood floors. Rooms are small and simple, but they are clean, bright, and comfortable, and include free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are also small -- and hairdryers are only available on request -- though perfectly adequate and nicely renovated. As it's an old building, there are some issues with creaking and poor sound insulation, however top floor rooms have some nice original beams -- just mind your head. Many rooms also have views of the surrounding historic streets.
