Bottom Line

Part of the historic, luxury New York Residence Budapest hotel next door, the New York Residence is a collection of luxury apartments with its own 24-hour reception and all the five-pearl luxury amenities of its neighbor. Unlike the hotel, the 138 residences forgo historic character and period furnishings in favor of a sleek modern decor, and all have full kitchens, ideal for long stays or families. Guests at the residences have access to the facilities next door, including its spa, fitness center, and the opulent New York Café. The Residence has its own breakfast room (continental breakfast is not included), but the only other on-site amenity is a small business corner. Surrounded by old apartments, the hotel isn't in the most appealing neighborhood, and it's located just outside the city center, but there are many shops and restaurants nearby. For the full hotel experience and on-site amenities, some may prefer the aforementioned New York Residence, Autograph Collection, but the rates are considerably higher.

Scene

Modern apartment building with marbled and dark wood interiors

Opened in 2011, the Boscolo Residence has won several awards following in the footsteps of its landmark parent property, the Boscolo Budapest, Autograph Collection. The atmosphere at the residence is much less opulent and Old World than that at the main hotel, though, with clean modern design based around white marble paired with dark fabric and wood. The bright, airy lobby sprawls around a central wood-columned feature lined with bookshelves, which separates the fireplace and sitting areas from the adjoining breakfast room. Thanks to the apartments' size and comforts, the lobby isn't especially lively; most guests (primarily families and business travelers on longer stays) do their lounging in their apartments.

Location

In the busy, not-so-central Erzsebetvaros neighborhood, next to the Boscolo Budapest, Autograph Collection

New York Residence is located in a busy part of Budapest, outside the city center, between the historic Jewish quarter and a residential neighborhood. It's a block away from Erzsébet körút, one of the city's main boulevards, and it's surrounded by restaurants and shops. It's a 20-minute walk from Vaci Street, the city's main shopping drag. Other landmarks, such as Liberty Square, St. Stephen's Basilica, and the shores of the Danube River are a bit farther away. The Blaha Lujza tér metro stop is right down the street, as are numerous other public transportation options. The Budapest Airport is about a 35-minute drive away.

Rooms

Sleek, modern luxury apartments with kitchens and living rooms; some have private balconies

All apartment-style rooms and suites are sleek and modern, with air-conditioning, updated kitchens, and dining areas with glossy white tables. White floors are accented with red or gray area rugs, and the sleek living spaces have light gray leather couches with colorful throw pillows and black or red floor lamps. Kitchens come fully equipped with cookware and utensils, coffeemakers, microwaves, glass electric ranges, and refrigerators. Many of the appliances are a futuristic white -- even the flat-screen TVs are white, though some guests complain that they're too small for the space. Rooms range in size from studios to large suites that encompass two floors, and some have balconies with city views. Larger rooms also have full ovens and dishwashers, and some have washer/dryers. Bathrooms have heated towel racks, vessel sinks, bidets, and walk-in rainfall showers. Suites add separate shower/tub combos.

Features

Breakfast room, business corner, access to full amenities at the Boscolo Budapest next door

Apart from a small business corner with a pair of computers and a printer, the facilities at the Boscolo Residence are minimal. On the plus side, guests have access to the amenities at the lauded Boscolo Budapest around the corner, which include a spa, pool, and fitness center (though extra fees may apply). There is a convenient breakfast room connected to the lobby here, which claims to serve one "thousand fragrant types" of Hungarian breads and pastries at the daily continental breakfast (for a fee), though well-heeled guests may opt to walk next door to the renowned New York Café.
