Bottom Line

DoubleTree Club by Hilton Hotel Buffalo Downtown is a three-pearl chain property connected to the Buffalo General Hospital, making it convenient for patients and business travelers. The location also provides easy access to downtown Buffalo, especially with a free hotel shuttle. The 100 rooms, like public spaces, are undergoing renovations in 2017, but currently have good amenities like microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Amenities are standard: a restaurant, gym, and meeting rooms. There’s no pool and the breakfast costs a fee. Travelers who don’t need to be on the medical campus might prefer the Hyatt Regency Buffalo. It’s similarly affordable, but more modern with a location in the heart of downtown and an indoor pool.

Wyndham Garden Buffalo Downtown

Scene

Contemporary chain hotel with some dated, but homey, spaces -- connected to a hospital

The DoubleTree Club by Hilton Hotel Buffalo Downtown is a mid-range chain hotel, that as of 2017, is undergoing renovations of guest rooms and public spaces, showing that the chain is making an effort to improve its properties. As of now, the hotel has a contemporary decor, though in the public spaces, the look is a bit dated. The lobby has glossy cream floors with a seating area with cozy brown leather chairs and a couch on a printed rug. This lobby sitting area and the “Library,” an area with couches and tables and a tube-style TV, provide a homey vibe with a relaxed decor. Similarly, the restaurant is low-key with dated blond wooden chairs and tables, gray carpet, and a simple wooden bar. Pre-renovations, the spaces aren’t exceptional by any means, but most guests are here for the connection to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

Location

Located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and a 25-minute walk from downtown Buffalo

A stay at this DoubleTree is ideal for those who need to be at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, as the hotel itself is connected to the Buffalo General Hospital. As it’s located on a medical campus, there’s little in the way of dining options beyond a few restaurants on surrounding streets. However, it is just a 25-minute walk to downtown Buffalo. For those who don’t prefer to walk, the hotel has a shuttle that will take visitors wherever they like in the downtown area for free. The Coca-Cola Field is a seven-minute drive away. The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino takes nine minutes to reach by car. Niagara Falls is a 32-minute drive away. The hotel also has an airport shuttle to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport -- a 15-minute drive -- though, it does cost a fee.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers; suites have kitchenettes

As of 2017, the hotel is undergoing renovations on the rooms, all of which are currently furnished in a generic but contemporary style of light gray carpets, tan walls, white beds with dark brown accents, and black and white framed photography on the walls. Beyond the decor, amenities are quite good: flat-screen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. Suites have other perks like kitchenettes with sinks, full-size refrigerators, coffeemakers, and microwaves. Though all the rooms are pretty spacious, the suites are especially so, as they were originally designed for patients to the hospital -- making many mobility-friendly. Cream and tan bathrooms are equipped with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and Aroma Actives toiletries. Some rooms have nice views of the cityscape.

Features

Fitness center, restaurant, breakfast buffet, snack shop, meeting spaces, business center, laundry room, and valet parking

The DoubleTree Club by Hilton Hotel Buffalo Downtown doesn’t excel particularly in any type of amenity, but they do provide a decent overall selection of features. The property doesn’t offer a pool or hot tub, but does have a fitness center with Precor cardio equipment and free weights. An on-site restaurant serving American cuisine for breakfast through dinner is convenient, as is room-service. A breakfast buffet of hot and cold items is available but costs a fee. Guests can also take advantage of a snack shop in the lobby. For business travelers, there are four meeting spaces, a business center, and free Wi-Fi. Other amenities include a coin-operated laundry room and valet parking for a fee.
