Bottom Line

This Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town is a 177-room luxury hotel with a smart, contemporary vibe and prime setting
overlooking the sea. There's not much in the immediate vicinity, but the
V&A Waterfront tourist hub is walkable or accessible via a free shuttle.
Facilities and service are good, though not perfect, and the pool is a little
small -- though views are superb. Ocean vistas from rooms are impressive too,
though you have to upgrade for the privilege. Rates unsurprisingly aren't cheap
for this high-end hotel and without a sea-view room it might feel too steep, so
consider a Superior Room or higher for the full experience.

Scene

Smart, contemporary chain hotel with Art Deco and maritime touches

Built in 1997 and
benefitting from a 2012 renovation, this Radisson Blu is a smart, contemporary chain hotel. Entrance is down a red-brick path flanked by a
row of squat palm trees to a long portico that leads into the main building --
a simple and stylish piece of modern architecture with an unmistakably Art Deco edge. Guests check-in to sleek marble-effect reception desks with bold
red backdrops before entering into the hotel's vast central atrium. Flooded
with natural light, the lobby area rises up through the property's five floors,
balconied with glass paneling and topped with huge sky lights. Furnishing is
tasteful and 21st-century, with the occasional subtle maritime references such
as porthole display cabinets and sea-life motifs. The hotel opens out to a
terrace overlooking the sea and its private marina, and on some days the sight
of sunbathing seals.

Location

Set on the north tip of Cape Town overlooking the sea and Robben Island

The hotel is
located in the Green Point area on the northern tip of Cape Town overlooking
the Atlantic Ocean and the famous Robben Island. There's not a great deal in
the immediate area besides Cape Town Stadium, however the bustling and popular
V&A Waterfront, full of quayside shops, restaurants, and cafes is a
10-minute walk away -- free shuttle service is also available. The Table
Mountain makes an impressive backdrop to the hotel, while there are some nice sandy beaches right next door. The center of Cape Town is a
couple of miles away, while the international airport is about a 25-minute
drive. The hotel also features a private marina so guests can also arrive by
boat.

Rooms

Upgrade for balconies with ocean views -- otherwise views can be dull

The hotel's 177
rooms are decorated in fresh, contemporary styling with warm wooden floors,
crisp white tones, and nautical-themed wall art. Rooms provide all the
amenities you'd expect from a high-end hotel, including free Wi-Fi and fluffy
bathrobes, while business class rooms also include Nespresso machines and open
to balconies overlooking the ocean (Standard Rooms look out towards the
stadium). Contemporary bathrooms all have excellent finishes, provide good
quality bath products, and twin basins.

Features

Morning breakfast and evening cocktails overlooking the Atlantic Ocean

An excellent
buffet breakfast is served each morning in Tobago's Restaurant (not generally
included in the rate) and can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the ocean
-- with occasional sunbathing seals or frolicking dolphins. A la carte menus
are also available throughout the day, while the Tobago's Bar & Terrace
also offers refreshments with sea vistas. As well as a modest-size outdoor
rim-flow pool, the hotel has a spa offering a range of treatments,
hydro-therapy pool, and fitness room -- though no sauna or steam bath. There is
a private marina on-site for those arriving by boat, and the hotel also offers
free shuttle transfers to the V&A Waterfront.
