Basic
rooms and amenities
The 13-room Caravanserai Cave Hotel is a typically quaint, family-run Cappadocia
lodging with a welcoming, rustic vibe set in the center of Göreme town. It's a pretty simple set-up, especially in the rooms, though this is part
of its appeal and it gets all the basics right -- including an especially warm welcome, a delicious free breakfast, and
terraces looking out over the wonderful scenery. Don't expect much in the way
of facilities or polish, but for spades of charm at very reasonable rates, this
is certainly one of the better options.
Scene
Typical Cappadocia-style small hotel with charming rustic ambience
Opened in 2010, the Caravanserai Cave Hotel follows the charming style
of architecture typical of the Cappadocia region with elegantly carved arches, limestone
walls, and grotto-like caves hewn from the rock. A large central courtyard is dotted with
numerous planted terra-cotta pots surrounding by pretty hanging plants
creating a pleasant, rustic, and weathered tone which is lit up in the evening to
superb effect. Stone staircases also lead to two further terraces that offer lovely
views of the surroundings spectacular "fairy chimneys". A family-run hotel, each guest
is personally welcomed by the owner, Oruç, who is also particularly attentive
and, as an authority on the area and its tourism, on-hand to help with any
aspect of his guests' stay.
Location
Set in the center of Göreme within easy reach of most attractions
The hotel is located in the center of Göreme within easy reach of most
of the town's tourist attractions including the complex of rock-cut dwellings of the Zelve Open Air Museum and plenty of
restaurants and cafes. The ancient 11th-century El Nazar Church is just over a
mile away while ballooning excursion points are also
well within walking distance. The hotel can organize private and bus transfers
to and from both Kayseri and Nevsehir Kapadokya airports (for a fee), while
takes between an hour and an hour and a half.
Rooms
Three different types of simple rooms with basic amenities
The hotel has 13
rooms -- comprising five standard, four stone-arch, and four original cave rooms
-- all of which are simply styled with Turkish-flavored decor and rustic
touches. Amenities are basic, with old-style tube TVs and little else -- though
tea and coffee can be ordered in-room throughout the day. Bathrooms are
adequate but have soap dispensers and some could use a refresh. Wi-Fi is also
available, but doesn't tend to dependably reach all rooms.
Features
Traditional Turkish breakfast with freshly baked bread on terrace with superb views
A simple, but
excellent, traditional Turkish breakfast is served each morning (included in
the rate) offering freshly baked bread which can be enjoyed on the breakfast
terrace with superb views. Tea and coffee are served throughout the day and the
owner and his son are always on-hand to help book excursions, arrange
transfers, or recommend restaurants.
