Bottom Line

The four-pearl Alegria Plaza Paris is a fun and lively property that's within a seven-minute walk to the beach and Lloret de Mar. Its public spaces are attractive, and while some of its 146 guest rooms are sleek with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and balconies, other rooms are dated. There’s a full restaurant, bar, gym, pools, and hot tubs, plus a spa that comes with an extra charge. Overall, it’s a good choice for couples and friends traveling together, but the young party crowd can get noisy at night. Note that this hotel closes in the winter. Travelers might want to compare rates at Gran Hotel Flamingo, which also has a fun, party-like atmosphere.

Scene

Modern hotel with a colorful, party-like atmosphere that draws couples and friends traveling together

Though the orange, apartment-style exterior is a bit unassuming, inside, the Alegria Plaza Paris has a sleek, modern lobby with glossy floors, lots of glass, white columns, and dark red accents. It contrasts sharply with the dated hallways, which have blue carpeting and yellow walls. The vibe in the restaurant is pleasant and relaxed. The space is set with yellow plastic chairs, red walls, wood columns, and light streaming in from windows on both sides. The bar gets a bit cozier with black leather armchairs and sofas. The outdoor pool area, perhaps the highlight here, has a patio with tables and chairs and a deck that spans two levels, with loungers for sunbathing. This popular hotel is only open seasonally, and draws a large clientele of couples and friends. The party atmosphere appeals to some guests and annoys others.

Location

In the city center, seven minutes from Lloret de Mar

Alegria Plaza Paris sits on a residential corner in the city center, surrounded by restaurants, shops, and a hospital. It’s about a seven-minute walk to the hot spot of Lloret de Mar that's home to the Santa Roma Church, shopping, and bars. The beach is about a seven-minute walk from the hotel. Some attractions, such as the Aquatic Water World Park or Santa Clotilde Gardens, are best reached by car. It’s a five-minute walk to the closest bus stop and an hour- and 15-minute drive to Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

Rooms

Some rooms have been updated, while others are dated; all have flat-screen TVs and minibars

Some of the 146 rooms were updated in 2011, and these have a colorful minimalist style, with white walls, brown pillows and curtains, and colorful striped accent walls or colorful chairs. The furniture is white and sleek. The rooms that weren't renovated have wood floors, orange accents, red walls, and floral art pieces. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, balconies, and safes that require a fee to use. Twin beds are pushed together to make a double bed. Junior Suites have the added luxury of whirlpool bathtubs, pullout sofas, and large furnished terraces. Updated rooms also have nicer bathrooms with sleek glass counters and vessel sinks; glass walk-in showers feature waterfall showerheads. Other rooms have dated tan tile and shower/tub combos (some with jets). All bathrooms come with hairdryers, bidets, and hotel brand toiletries.

Features

Outdoor pool with three hot tubs and a spa with a hammam

This hotel might not be as big as a resort, but it’s got plenty of features to keep guests entertained. The top feature of the hotel is the outdoor pool and three hot tubs that are surrounded by loungers (occupied quickly) and serviced by a small pool bar. Though the spa costs an extra fee, it's popular with guests for its sauna, hammam, showers, hydromassage pool, and massages. There’s a modest gym with cardio and weight-lifting equipment, and free weights, but not all the equipment is state of the art. As far as dining options, there’s a buffet-style international restaurant with half-board and full-board options, although past guests haven't raved about the food. The bar has a pool table, arcade game, and serves ice cream, but it closes early. Limited room service is available. There are public computers and a printer that can be used for a fee, and free Wi-Fi throughout.
