Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Hotel Acacias Suites & Spa has a walkable location on the edge of Lloret de Mar, five minutes from the beach. The hotel consists of two buildings -- the older building was last renovated in 2004, and its rooms and public spaces need an update. Standard Rooms include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges. Apartments and Suites are in the newer part of the hotel, and come with full kitchens, whirlpools, and cardio equipment. Be aware that breakfast and in-room Wi-Fi come with a fee, and guests must pay to use the spa, whose features include an indoor pool, hot tub, gym, and sauna. A small aboveground outdoor pool is open in the summer. Standard Rooms can only be booked in the busy season (between spring and fall), while Apartments and Suites are available year-round. The on-site restaurant is open only in peak season. Travelers could also consider Hotel Anabel, which offers nicer rooms, free use of the spa, and free Wi-Fi throughout.

Scene

Family-run hotel set in two buildings -- one modern and the other dated

Opened in 1966, the family-run Hotel Acacias Suites & Spa was renovated in 2004. In 2008, the spa was added, and in 2010, the Suites and Apartments were built. The hotel occupies two different buildings set side-by-side. The newer building houses the Suites and Apartments and the outdoor pool. The spa, restaurant, bar, and rooms are found in the older building, where guests enter. The lobby is bright, with a small front desk, glossy wood floors, and yellow-and-orange armchairs -- it's not unpleasant, but it all adds up to a dated look. The lobby leads to the bar area, which has colorful couches and armchairs, and an outdoor patio. Like the other public spaces, the breakfast room doesn't exactly scream pizzazz. The blue, black, and white tablecloths don’t match the maroon-and-cream-colored walls, or the wooden chairs with pale-salmon cushions. The main building needs an update to lessen the disconnect between the design of the spa and the Apartments and Suites in the newer building.

Location

Within walking distance to the beach, the town center, restaurants, and shopping

Set on the edge of Lloret de Mar, Hotel Acacias Suites & Spa is less than a five-minute walk to the beach. Lloret de Mar is very walkable, and the sights, restaurants, bars, and shopping are all about a five- to 10-minute walk from the hotel. The Church of Santa Roma is an 11-minute walk from the hotel, while Castell Den Plaja is a seven-minute walk away. Santa Clotilde Gardens and Aquatic Water World Park are about a 10-minute drive. As far as public transportation goes, the closest bus stop is a six-minute walk from the property. It’s about a 95-minute drive to Barcelona El-Prat Airport.

Rooms

Standard Rooms are dated; newer Apartments and Suites include full kitchens, whirlpools, and cardio equipment

Rooms in the older building hotel have a dated, no frills aesthetic, while Suites and Apartments, added in 2010, are modern and sleek, with a design that feels curated. Standard Rooms have orange and white tiles, solid blue bedding, beach posters, and wooden furniture -- the overall effect is dated and tired. Apartments and Suites go with neutral shades -- cream-toned wallpaper, streamlined furniture, and gray bedding. All units have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning,  mini-fridges, and balconies or patios. In-room Wi-Fi and use of safes comes with a fee. Suites include extra perks like hot tubs in the living rooms, small fitness areas with modest cardio machines, rooms with private massage tables, washers, and full kitchens with stoves, ovens, microwaves, dishwasher, refrigerators, cutlery, cookware, and plates. None of the rooms have coffeemakers. Bathrooms are spacious enough and feature shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries.

Features

Spa with Turkish baths, indoor pool, and fees

Hotel Acacias Suites & Spa's best features come with pesky fees. Take the lovely, sleek spa, for example. It has a small indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, Turkish baths, a small fitness center, and treatment rooms for massages, but requires a fee. The aboveground outdoor pool surrounded by artificial grass will do for a quick dip -- there's a kids' pool too in the same area -- but it's small. The buffet-style restaurant serves Catalan cuisine and a breakfast buffet. Full-board options are available, but they don't include drinks. The restaurant gets only so-so reviews, and isn't open year-round, although the bar, which serves snacks and has an outdoor patio, is. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and bar.
